So, my 2nd dress fitting was Thursday night and I’m sitting here looking at the pictures. The seamstress took in 2 inches on both sides of the gown which makes my waist look great but then I saw this picture:
Argh! I feel completely mortified to look like this in the dress. I mean, it looks great in the front..
..but does the back look hideous and horrible? 🙁
I have a fur bolero jacket that I’ll be wearing at the reception but I’m just hoping I won’t look like a hot mess walking down the aisle because of the way the back looks so tight. 🙁

It doesn’t look bad, but were you standing up straight? I am a fellow strapless dress bride and have had it fit very tightly so it won’t fall down and if I’m not standing straight I think it’s a little unflattering. If you’re wearing a bolero/veil no one will see that part of you anyway!

i don’t see anything wrong with the back… what in particular are you worried about?

The dress is gorgeus and you look beautiful in it too. I see what you mean but I don’t think it is as horrible as you may seem. Esp if you are going to wear a bolero during the reception. At the ceremony, you’ll have your veil that will cover most of your back wont you?

I don’t think so. I’m not even sure what you don’t like about it.

Nope. You’re being harsh critic of yourself.

The chunk right above where the dress ends, right near my arm fold. I feel like I look crammed into the dress.. and I didn’t feel that way at all.. and now I’m like, “Oh God, it looks like we tried to stuff too much into a gown,” or something.
Yeah, I’m thinking my veil will probably disguise it some, but I might have been slouched a little bit due to the pulling on the corset. The seamstress was tugging and tugging and then tied it really quickly and my mom snapped this shot, so that could have been what it was.
Thanks for the responses. I think I just needed some kind of reassurance that it wasn’t as bad as I was thinking. My fiance won’t look at the pics (because he’s traditional and doesn’t want to see the dress) but he kept trying to tell me that he was sure it wasn’t as bad as I was making it out to be. Sorry for the panic, ladies, but thank you for the thoughts and feedback. 🙂

I agree that the dress fits beautifully around your hips, and I also agree that the back needs to be altered so that you aren’t so squished.
You could get her to lower the sides so that back of the dress is resting under your shoulder blade, not on or above them – I think that would fix your problem.

Bridal consultants pull those dresses sooo dang tight! I remember once I tried on this gorgeous dress but I literally could not expand my chest to breathe, I stood in front of the mirror and said “omg get this off me, I am suffocating”!!!
Perhaps you’d be happier if the corst was tied looser? I think the back of the gown is stunning—but if you’re uncomfortable, I think you have options since the wedding is in April.

I do not think it looks bad because, to be honest, if I was at your wedding, I would be focusing on how beautiful you look! However, as a fellow bride who worries about how my back looks, I can totally empathize, and I would also be freaking out that I look squished in my dress. (It looks a big tight.) The only reason I am commenting is because I think that if you feel uncomfortable about it, you won’t feel beautiful and sexy like you should on your wedding day. So, my 2 cents is to target the area if you think that will help at all, loosen the corset up a bit and/or wear your veil/corset. Again, I want to repeat–YOU LOOK GORGEOUS! I am only suggesting these things so that you feel good on your day as I have similar issues right now and understand how it feels.

I was going to say EXACTLY what BriarRose suggested.

I wouldn’t have even noticed if you hadn’t said anything. You look great. If it bothers you, talk to your seamstress. They might be able to do something.

It looks like your corset may have been tied too tightly. Other than that I don’t see anything you should feel badly about. = )

I agree, it may have just been how tightly your corset was tied! Seriously though, it’s not at all noticeable. You look beautiful! Maybe just experiment with corset tightness to see if you can get it to a point where you’re happy with how your back looks, but if not, I wouldn’t fret! It looks just fine, and you’re absolutely gorgeous in that dress.

i think that your look beautiful and you just need to make it looser on the back.. 🙂
