Does this look like an engagement ring or is it more an everyday ring?

To me it looks to simple and a ring you could give as a gift but my SO loves it

Have you shown him photos of rings you actually like? You need to be happy with the ring especially since you 'll be wearing it everyday :)

Upon first sight I don't know that I'd think of it as an engagement ring. But if someone was wearing it on their left ring finger I'd probably assume it was.

What matters is that you and your SO love it. Have you showed him ring styles you like within his budget?

Truly it is a smaller ring, but if it was part of a set on your ring finger I would know it's an engagement ring.

It's pretty, but people could easily think it is a promise ring, being both small and in a whimsicle style

I would not think it was anengagement ring unless someone told me it was

If you like it for a E ring then thats all that matters. I wouldnt think it was if I saw it but I do agree that if I saw it with a set then I would think so as well. either way tho it is pretty! :)

If it was worn on your left ring finger and I knew you were engaged in real life, it might look like an engagement ring, but culturally speaking (from a Western/North American culture) No, it does not look like the vast majority of engagement rings.

Honestly, if I saw it on someones left hand I would assume it was a promise ring unless part of a set/stacked style.

Since you appear to be in Norway, I am not sure what the culatural standard is. My European friends generally think my American engagement ring is rediculous, so maybe you could give us some context as to what is normal in Norway? I think that is a pretty ring but agree that it looks like a promise ring to an American.

I think it's gorgeous- I personally would prefer something less understated for an engagement ring. It's your ring though. If you love it go for it!

@Missmillyme:  It doesn't really look like a "typical" engagement ring because it's so tiny.  But if I did see a girl wearing it on her left ring finger, I would definitely assume it was an e-ring.

@Missmillyme:  Do you think it looks like an engagement ring? Do you think that you could wear it for the rest of your life? Or would yo just wear your wedding band and put that ring in a jeweler box effectively making it a waste of money?

You said that your SO loved it, but do you love it? Does SO know what you love?

In my opinion, if it's on the left ring finger, it's engagement. I would never question if I saw even the most non traditional ring on the wedding finger.

I would assume it was a promise ring. What about just a plain band? Or a band with little stones in it?

I think it looks like a promise ring....but who cares what I think?! It depends on culture and what you want. :)

to be honest, if I saw a lady wearing that, I would not assume she was engaged. however, an engagement ring can be anything you want it to be. so if you love it, I say go for it!

If it's on the left ring finger, I think of it as an engagement ring.  This ring's lovely.  I love how delicate it is - I think it's a beautiful, classy choice.

There's a huge variety of ring styles and diamond sizes, and think it's unfortunate that just because a diamond's small it's assumed to be a promise ring.  It seems to sort of diminish the symbolism of what an engagement ring represents, IMO.

I think anything can be an engagement ring. If I saw that in person on a women's ring finger, I might not immediately think that it was...but that's because youre used to seeing the traditional style of e-ring.

If I see a ring on a left ring finger, I assume it is an engagement ring. Yes, I would consider this an e ring. Do you like it, OP?

If you like it go for it! A solitaire always looks very e-ring like anyway!

There are places where people don't wear engagement rings, and cultures where rings are worn on the right hand, there is nothing special or unique about an engagement ring except for what it signifies.
