I put my wedding dress up on a few sites in hopes of selling it so I could cover the cost of my new one. I got a bit this morning and was so excited. Here are the emails ….
Am very much interested in buying your wedding dress.
How much is the firm price for this dress and
is the picture in the AD the real picture?
I am asking 700 plus shipping because I have to buy another dress, and that’s 175 dollars off the original price that I paid. This is also a discontinued dress so it will be harder to find. The pictures in the ad are the real pictures, more can be provide upon request.
There response (i started to get suspicious):
Thanks for getting back to me.Am buying the wedding dress for my lovely daughter who works in the United States Consulate office in West Africa. The dress is for my daughter wedding which is coming up in some days time.I traveled out of the States to london for an official meeting and i would need you to help me send this dress directly to my daughter in West Africa for her wedding. Am offering to pay you the sum of $835 for the dress, accessories and shipping of the dress to my daughter in NIGERIA.Send me a paypal request for payment of the item if my offer is alright for you and i would like the dress shipped through Post Office Express Mail international (EMS).
Thanks for your understanding. Send me a paypal request for that amount so i can send payment tomorrow or later on as am in the middle of a very important meeting. Thanks.
So, what do you think? I just can’t afford to be taken for a ride.

Could be fradulent… usually when they offer to pay you more than what you’re asking it is… but I’m not an expert!

That sounds fishy to me… The whole part about paying MORE than the asking price is what sticks out as red flag.

definitely don’t do it. It’s a scam.

I say fraud, I got 1700 dollars stolen from me through paypal a few months ago. I would be careful and I would say don’t do it.

Honey, that’s totally a scam. Don’t mail anything to West Africa!
1. the grammar is terrible- Clue #1
2. Wants you to send it to NIGERIA!!!
3. Is willing to pay MORE- classic scammer trick

Scam. Any emails involving Nigeria are scams. I remember when the Nigerian government wanted to give me a million dollars…

Oh also, the email is in broken English. Clearly not someone actually FROM the U.S. abroad on business. And who writes an email about buying a used wedding dress while abroad and “in the middle” of an important meeting? This is total BS. Tell this “buyer” that the dress has already been sold and ignore any other emails you get.
