Does your boss do this? Do you think it's okay?

@MissHarleyBlue:  It isn’t okay for a toddler to behave like that let alone an adult, especially in a professonal setting! No, you are definitely not paid enough to play babsitter I agree. My manager is pretty immature at best cursing and throwing mini-tantrums and I just try to ignore it half the time. But this, this is out of control!

oh man! In my experience, this is not normal boss behavior. You DO need a new job!

Um. No this is not ok by any stretch of the imagination. You really need a new job.

With regards to your desk, does it have locks on it? I would put anything important in your desk at night and then lock it in your desk drawer if you have that option.

What a jerk.

@MissHarleyBlue:  Um, there is no reason for him to act like a child. You should complain to HR or I would confront him and tell him he’s acting like a child (but not in those words lol)

I’d tell him that even though he’s your boss, he needs to respect your work place, and respect you as an employee. That as an employee, you are entitied to that. If he fires you, sue him for harrassment.

@MissHarleyBlue:  I so so so hate it when my desk gets screwed with!  On occassion my boss will sit at my desk to print things after hours because sometimes her computer won’t communicated with the printer we all share.  Well the next day I’ll come in to work and pens and scissors are lying all over, my notepad is over there, my stapler is over here, etc. etc.  Just not how I want to start my day, but I also feel, like you said you don’t own the desk.

As far as swearing and throwing things goes, yes my boss does that.  The worst thing he ever did was he was on the phone talking to a client who blatantly lied about what I told them on the phone and my boss walked up to me while still on the phone with the client and said “if she did that — ughhhh!” and made a strangling hand motion…. yeah I could have called the cops on him for that shit.

They’re pretty generous around Christmas, parties, etc. though so I wouldn’t say mine are as bad as yours, I couldn’t deal with that on a daily basis.

My boss isn’t bad like yours, but does have the desk thing in common.  It’s pretty usual to come back from a day off to find your desk “cleaned” or reorganized.  I just make sure to put everything away and put important stuff in a file folder (after a few times I learned which spots won’t get moved).  I just kind of brush it off, but again I don’t have any other issues.  I know that it’s just in the spirit of trying to keep the office looking nice, nothing else meant by it.  If it was on top of the other behavior you’re dealing with it would bother me way more.

That’s horrible, I would be out of there…no way I could put up with that!

I don’t like that all my mail at work gets opened and read, nothing in there that’s private per say but still it’s like it is addressed to ME why does anyone else need to read it. Sometimes I go to check my mail and the front office/mail guy is like “Oh there’s a really interesting article in the journal you recieved this week”….ugh. So going through my desk? That would annoy me to no end. I would probably keep my desk minimal and lock up/take home as much paperwork as possible.

Have you gone to HR yet???  Could you get a few people to go with you and file a complaint?

Your HR department is the most chickenshit thing I’ve ever heard of. I’d be desperately applying to new jobs if I were you.

Wow! My boss sounds like an angel compared to yours. Actually my boss is really nice and I’m happy to work for him. He makes coming to work more enjoyable because he supports all of us in the job that we do. Your boss sounds terible and I could never deal with some one like that ever!!! How can you not sign a person time off sheet and HR knows about this and doesnt do anything? Weird..

@MissHarleyBlue:  WTF?!!!! I never heard anything like this before!!! I have worked for different companies before and in different kind of jobs, but nothing even close to this has ever happened to me… Terrible! That’s so frustrating! I hope either they get rid of him or you can find a better job with a nicer boss! Im so sorry for you!!!
