I have a 60lb pit mix who has pretty short hair. I feel bad on these freezing cold days- I touch his skin and it's so cold. He has a jacket but HATES wearing it and looks seriously depressed when he has it on. He even runs when I get it. But, honestly, I find that even more adorable :)
Let's see your pets in their winter gear!
Is Loki really the only poor soul that gets stuck dressing up in cold weather???
Are you serious?... Your dog runs away from you, and looks depressed while wearing it, but you still force him into it? Why?
whoa- this dog is the love of my life- i'm not hurting him. he runs away from frontline when i have to give it to him! he'll run from a jellybean or a cherry tomato. he's a goofball. we live in the northeast- when it's cold he has to wear a coat!
Awww he looks so sad and adorable. I have a mini dachshund (hence the name) and his little belly touches the cold grass or snow. So if its a really cold day, or snowing, I'll put his jacket on to go outside.
That's why dogs have fur. My fiance would kill me if i put a sweater or jacket on either one of my dogs..
I had a vest for my dog but he didn't need it once he got older and his fur was longer. I gave it to a friend who had a pit bull and she tried it on her. The dog promptly ate the vest.
I guess she's ok with being cold haha
My Sophie does & she loves clothes! I think its because the only time she wears them is when we go bye-bye. lol So she forces her head through her shirts and coats as fast as she can because she knows soon after we are going somewhere. haha
Her swimmer. :-)
I love pooches in sweaters and jackets. I think they look unbelievably adorable.
@Soon2BeMrsPea: Not necessarily. My brother has two Boston Terriers. On really cold days, they put their coats on them when they go for walks b/c they shiver otherwise. Some dogs are not built for the cold weather.
I don't dress up my dog (he's a malamute that weighs about 110 lbs), but sometimes I wish I could find him a super-large doggie raincoat to wear!! We live in the northwest, and it rains ALL WINTER here. He has way more than enough fur to keep warm, but it takes him so long to dry off if he gets soaked while going outside to potty!!
Your dog is quite cute, OP. I love the little ears!! :)
@barbie86: hahaha She actually stands on her back feet and dances. So when she wears the tutu its so cute! lol
@Mrs.Estep omg- the shoes!!! loki had shoes on once. he walked around like a newborn giraffe, just learning to walk.
that tutu is ridiculous!!!!!
Mine sure does! I made them myself. We have a greyhound - very short fur, and no body fat. She gets cold. Dogs have fur because we want them to. If we preferred them without it, we'd breed them all that way. Huskies are functional. My poor greyhound is cold. Haha. She hated her coats too (one outdoor, one indoor) until she realised how much warmer she was. :-P
My dog is 135 pounds so he could literally fit into human clothes. He has a thick coat of long fur and loves being outside in winter so no clothes for him!
@relaxedabout it: The shoes she actually did good in, but they kept falling off. :/ Her paw pads was really rough when we first got her (adopted her from a local shelter.) & I mean so rough it looked like it hurt. But they never lasted long on her feet so she doesn't wear them nor need them now that her paws are soft! :-)
Ms.Dachshund I would LOVE to have a dachshund. arguably the cutest dogs of all time. well, besides my stinky loki. poor baby with a cold belly!
@Mrs.Estep: Adorable! My aunt's poodle loves clothes too. I'm thinking about painting my dog's nails next. DH doesn't even care. He says to pick a color that'll match her fur. She's brindle and looks like a tiger.
@relaxedabout it: He is an amazing dog. I jokingly tell my DH all the time that if he ever leaves me I'll become the crazy dog lady and have like 20 mini dachshunds running around.
@sweetpea87: Awww! I tried doing hers in hot pink but it wouldn't show up on her black nails. :(
I definitely don't put any clothes on our lab mix. And I'm pretty sure she would rip them off and eat them if we tried.
I find I always feel bad for animals I see wearing clothes. You'd think it's one of the perks of being a furry friend not having to wear anything.
I can't work out if some of these posts are serious or not; really hoping not, but really worried they are...
@KatyElle: Don't feel bad for Sophie. She wouldn't have it any other way, no joke! I have tried clothes on my cats, they hate it. It lasted long enough for a picture & they got no more clothes. I wouldn't make her wear clothes if she didn't like it.
@barbie86: Why are you worried? My dog eats healthy, gets her shots, vet visits, her fur brushed & trimmed, bathed & treated for fleas. She is very healthy & very happy & I am sure the pictures show it. :-)
@Mrs.Estep: I just can't imagine how a dog would be able to comfortably walk wearing shoes on their paws, but hey if yours can more power to you. I tried to put a Santa hat on Jacques for Christmas photos, not even close!
I have a big pup who loves clothes! But he has too much fur and it's too hot in Texas to dress him up anymore...
But he did have a Longhorns t-shirt we would put on him when he was a pup and he LOVED it, doesn't bother him one bit. lol
ETA: He does wear halloween costumes though and loves it:

Just wanted to show her off. She's so pretty! I think a nice burnt orange polish would look great.

And yes, I'm completely serious. She needs a coat, or she shivers, won't go to the bathroom, and holds up her paw like she's begging. And whenever I feel like seeing if she'll let me, I'll paint her nails too. Taking suggestions for polish colors!
She wears a pink bandana on occasion, I do halloween costumes, and I thought about getting her a raincoat because she hates going out in the rain to potty, but honestly that is where I draw the line.
Well...besides this.

Soo cute!
My border collie will wear holiday tshirts, but she really doesn't NEED a coat. It can be 0* outside and she still won't want to come in. Our Boston gets cold in the winter, though, and if it's really cold, he won't want to go outside, so we do have clothes for him to wear.
for the record, loki is 100% fine once we're outside, he's all about hunting squirrels and looking for trash to eat.
i didn't realize this was a controversial topic in any way. i was just hoping to see cute dogs in outfits.
@DeadlyNightshade: bahaha love this. I put glasses on my pup the other night and he looked like a little professor. Couldnt get a picture in time though
@barbie86: @Soon2BeMrsPea: seriously guys? go read this thread http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/coexisting-on-weddingbee then come back here.
Not all dogs coats are suitable for each climate and some need protection when it gets cold whether they like it or not.
@KatyElle: If you read the above comments posted by me you would read where I stated she does not wear them any longer & could walk great in them! I only bought the shoes because her paws was in rough shape. :( I mean really bad, they felt worse than sand paper & I was trying to let them heal. She only wore them twice though because they was to big. But her paws have since healed & are soft. :-)
IMPO, pets are not fashion accessories. If they genuinely need to wear a coat because they have short fur and live in a climate which is not appropriate for them then fine, I can accept that.
I cannot accept people treating pets as fashion accessories or dolls, and dressing them up or painting their nails. I think it's pointless, quite cruel, and also seriously tacky. I see it the same way as parents who enter their kids into beauty pageants and nonsense like that; it's just unnecessary.
@Mrs.Estep: I did read that comment :) It's not my cup of tea, but if your dog likes it, rock on with it! My aunt forces her cats into sweaters and rain boots and tries to walk them on a leash and I just want to say "Nooooo stop!" But they hate it.
@barbie86: Then leave the thread and don't dress up your dog. :-) Sorry, you're not gonna change anyone's mind here.
barbie86 well, if my dog is treated cruelly lock me up. this animal is carried around like a baby, sleeps with his head on my pillow and gets 3 walks a day. sometimes, it's f'ing cold out and he shivers, which means he needs a jacket. this was a fun lighthearted post. just because you seem to take offense to dogs needing to be protected from the weather, does not give you the right to call me cruel or tacky. you came here and crapped all over a pretty silly post.
