We had a summer pool party theme for ours and it didn’t match any of the other wedding events.  I think it is up to who is hosting your party to make the decision on what theme to follow.  You shouldn’t worry with it as it is a party thrown for you by your family/friends

I dont think it needs to “match” but i think it should set the tone for the wedding just like the save the date or invitation…like if its a formal wedding i think the e-party should be on the more formal side, maybe a cocktail party or something…

i don’t think it needs to match. first of all, it’s a different season, and second of all you’re not the one putting it on. our engagement party was at a campground where we got engaged, we had a huge bbq. our wedding was at a b&b with a garden/vintage theme.

Nope!  I think it would be a good opportunity to do something you wouldn’t want to do for your wedding.  But something you like (obviously).
