- Wedding: May 2011 - Bartram's Garden
I just came across this article and it was very enlightening. It was written by a wedding industry insider and here is the snippet that really got to me.
I have listened to several seminars of wedding industry educators – both in person and on educational DVD’s and webinars – on how to attract the “ideal bride” as a client. Most have explicitly stated that a vendor should only show photos on their websites and blogs of “beautiful” brides and “only rings that have a diamond of [x] carats or more”. I have been told, on more than one occasion and by different vendors, that they couldn’t blog a wedding because the couple just wasn’t “attractive enough”.
I have a confession. I’m usually very level-headed about wedding stuff, but when I was getting ready to meet with our photographers for the first time, I was really nervous. I even said to my co-worker “What if they think we’re too ugly to shoot our wedding?”
She told me in no certain terms that I was crazy, and I know that she’s right. It’s true that the boy and I have gained a lot of weight since we’ve been together, but we’re not ugly. Still, I was really antsy and felt really insecure.
I shouldn’t have been. The photographers were super-nice, and all of the events that they shoot make it onto the blog.
But it really made me wonder. Do you know if your photographer blogs every wedding that they shoot? If you’re photographer’s blog is filled with photos of beautiful people only, do you think that they only shoot attractive people, or that they only blog attractive people?

I think my photographer blogs all his pictures. He put me up and I don’t have a huge diamond and I’m not supermodel gorgeous!

Our photographer blogged quiet a bit until us, LOL. It was around the holidays and there were several other weddings around the time that didn’t get blogged so I don’t think it’s a big deal. Blogs that I stalk, do blog everything, which is why I read/stalk them compared to the couple that shot ours. I’ve never heard that tid bit about beautiful clients and big diamonds. I’ll admit I was disappointed ours wasn’t blogged because I felt we had wonderful details and I wanted the world to know, LOL.

Our doesn’t blog every wedding, and I’m almost certain she only chooses weddings where the couple were really attractive, because those seem to be the only ones she’ll post. It’s kind of annoying. I wasn’t expecting to get blogged, and we didn’t, but it’s annoying because she’ll only blog her clients that look like models.

Our photographer doesn’t blog at all. She’s more traditional, and not up on technology much.

Very interesting post! I’m curious how true this is!
Our photographer doesn’t blog every wedding she shoots, but the weddings she does blog include lots of diversity – couples of all shapes, sizes, colors, sexual orientations and religions. I think it’s actually a much better advertisement of her work that way – her photos beautifully capture the joy of all kinds of weddings.

Very interesting! I’m not sure what my photographer does. I’ll find out soon – we took our engagement pics last weekend and we should have them back from her in the next week. I guess I’ll see then if we made the cut.

Mine doesn’t, but not because of the status of his clients. He just stinks at blogging! Every few months he’ll do a “sorry” post with a ton of clients on it 🙂 In fact, one of his most recent one was a VERY low budget wedding.
I DO blog all my clients, and I still get people asking if I only blog models 😛 I don’t, I’m not hired by models either. ALL my clients are average. Some might be size 2, some are 16+… I just know how to make everyone look awesome… which is kinda my job! lol
I will say, that was at one time a school of thought. People woke up to it though! I am sure there’s still a few around doing it, unfortunately.

That’s pretty messed up if it’s true. Frankly, I hope my photog deems me too ugly to blog! I’ve always found the idea of my wedding, my private day for around 60 of the people we care about the most, being made public on the internet to be uncomfortable and undesirable to me!

My photographer just started blogging. We’ll see if I make the blog in August!

I have no idea, but I’ve often wondered! My favorite photographers have featured brides of many body types and “looks” but I’m not sure they feature all the weddings. I do know that our e photo photographer made a note that she updates her blog all the time, but rarely updates her portfolio.

One thing I’ve noticed is that many photogs may blog about most everyone, but not everyone makes the cut to be put on their main site, it seems to be quite selective with “featured weddings”. I think it’s unfortunate because like owlbride said it’s great to see diversity and I find that makes the sites more interesting/attractive. Plus they should be able to make EVERYONE look good like KLP2010 says.
I wonder if it depends on how many weddings they’re doing at a time and how busy they are. But now I am curious, we have a meeting tomorrow night so I am going to ask.

Our photographer doesn’t blog every couple but she told me that she asks the couples for permission and not all of them agree to it. it also depends on how busyshe is.

One of the things I loved about several photogs we considered was 1) seeing a variety of skin tones on their website (we’re a biracial couple, so it’s important to me that our photog can photograph us together and make us both look good at the same time!) and 2) seeing a variety of body sizes.
I’m not in great shape. I’m pretty soft around the middle. So it’s important to me that my photographer have experience in taking photographs that don’t make me look pregnant, haha.
I asked our photog about blogging weddings, and she said she tries to blog every wedding she does, but had some downtime right after her grandmother passed away last year where she didn’t blog several weddings (or much of anything), and I thought that was pretty reasonable. 🙂

Everybody on our photographer’s blog seems pretty good looking. I have no idea if this is on purpose.
