My FI wanted a ring too! Before he proposed, I would occationally wiggle my ring finger in his direction and he would do it right back :) We both have aquamarines, my in set in white gold, his in silver. I plan on wearing my e-ring on my right hand after the wedding and he will put his away for safe keeping. I love it when he wears his engagement ring around proudly. It's so cute!
He didn't want one, he's not much of a ring guy to begin with. The funny thing was once we got our marriage bands he liked it so much he wanted to start wearing it but decided to wait til the big day.
DH had a silver band when he got deployed. I don't know where it is. He moved it to his pocket in his BDUs because apparently the army frowns on you wearing a wedding ring if you're not married and you're in uniform.
@rosiebear--cute!! I never thought of having "matching-ish" rings!! That's cool!
@verosara--isn't it funny how attached they get to the ring?! Sometimes I think they like looking married just as much as we do!!
It's not really an engagement ring, because I got him one before he proposed. He weras it everyday on his right hand. :)
We got eachother rings before we were engaged. He got me the Cartier Trinity ring for my birthday which I wore on my left hand. Then I bought him the Cartier Double C Decor ring for Christmas. I wore my ring every day until I got my ering. He still wears his ring... for one more day. He has decided to take it off 6 months before our wedding so wearing his wedding band will be special.
My hubby has two! It was actually my idea to get him one, I just thought it was unfair that I get a ring even though we decided to get married as a couple. (But of course the rings I bought him were way cheaper:) One is stainless steel and one black tungsten. He doesn't wear the steel one anymore (it was his first) because he fell in love with the black tungsten. He wears it on his right hand every day.
Haha, my FI found his engagement ring before we found mine! So we ordered it, and the moment we picked it up he put it on his finger and it's been there ever since. He's not getting a wedding ring, though. The ring that he wears now is the one he'll wear for our wedding and beyond unless it breaks (it's ceramic).
That's really interesting... I've never heard of men wearing engagement rings. That's cool, though... It seems like that would promote more equality... I doubt it ever crossed my FI's mind, but he isn't one for any type of men's jewelry, really.
I wanted him to have one, but we decided to save the money for something else. I have seen it done, though. I love the idea.
The "man-gagement" ring is a big thing now. My SO told me once we get engaged he wants one too, which im absolutely perfect with. I told him along time ago before we discussed him having a ring that if he got me a ring id get him a watch he wanted (which was like $1,600).. now that he wants a ring.. that will be my engagement gift to him and the watch will be my wedding present to him.
My FI proposed to me around Dec & I wanted to get him an ering too... he already wore a promise ring but it was old & he wanted to get a better one. I told him not to get a new one, cause we're getting married soon & we'll just use the money towards his wedding band. But I got him his ering for Valentine's day & he loves it so much! We're going to use our promise rings as our wedding bands at the ceremony & then buy our wedding bands on our honeymoon in Mexico :). We'll probably wear our erings on our right hand after we're married.
I had bought my fiance a ring, before he was my fiance, that had a verse inscribed inside. It was brushed stainless and fit perfectly on his left hand. He proposed not long after and we considered the ring I gave him his own engagement ring :) I love in our engagement pics that we both have rings on!
DH isn't much of a jewellery person so I don't think he would have ever wanted an e ring. An engagement present though? Yes please! So he got a Playstation 3, the Rock Band game, and a new computer monitor. None of it nearly as sentimental-and-forever as my beautiful ring but he was certainly a happy boy. I also don't think it's fair that the man doesn't get anything to mark the occasion. Some would say they get us, but then we get them too :)
FI had one, but he lost it like 2 days later. I guess I should have been mad, but with how frantically he was looking for it, I just felt sorry for him.
No my future hubs doesn't have one...but he is so excited to wear his wedding band! He just picked it up yesterday but he has to wait 99 more days ;)
My FI is wearing his own type of engagement ring. It's his old claddagh ring. He is wearing it on his left ring finger with the heart pointing in.
But he claims that he wears it because it's easier than awarkdly plugging that he has a fiancee in every convo with a girl by the third sentence.
But whateve. :)
I proposed to FI with a ring, though after we talked it through we decided it wasn't the best choice for his lifestyle even though he liked it (it was shiny and had small stones in it, too flashy for an undergrad student like my FI). So we got him a a brushed tungsten one from an etsy seller (which was significantly cheaper at $55!, and fits him perfectly since it was custom made). He never wore jewelry before but really was committed to getting used to wearing the engagement ring. He loves it.
When we get married, he'll of course replace it with his wedding band. We'll probably do something cute with his engagement ring, but I don't know what yet! We're actually the same ring size and I like his ring, so I might wear it on my right hand from time to time!
Yep. I thought it was unfair that he not get one, so before I thought he was going to propose I spent a day walking to a dozen stores to find one of those little red machines that spit out crappy plastic toys and jewlery for a quarter. (Didn't those machines used to be everywhere?) I finally found one at the Big Lots. After three tries, it finally spit out a giant plastic black ring with gold-ish squiggles. (The first 2 quarters got plastic skull necklaces. Hooray!) I made sure to point out that even if his ring was only valued at 25 cents, I spent three times that. He has put it in "safekeeping." I'm sure it's because he's terrified of damaging or losing it. :) Oddly enough he has no such qualms about the ipod to go with it (a ring-ing in his ears).
For our 4 year anniversary, FI gave me another promise ring and i bought him a ring too. it's a thin, white gold band. he wears it on his left ring finger & he's worn it everyday since. i wore mine until i got my ering and now i wear it on my right hand (:
yes! We joked about this, but I actually surprised FI with his ering on valentine's day - he really likes it. It will make a good ring for his summers out doing field research in the mountains when he doesn't want to risk losing his wedding ring. Some of his students asked him the other day if he was married and when he said it was an ering one of the male students said he didn't get an ering! (they're college students in case that sounds weird)
Yep, he has an engagement ring. In our culture, both need to have engagment rings.
My parents bought it for him. (I have no income because I am a student.)

My husband was insistent on having an engagement ring, too! As soon as he proposed he said, "K, future wife, I want a ring, too. I even know what I want. Can we go get it?"
Lots of people were really confused as to why he would want an engagement ring--some people even thought we were already married! But we had a 17-month engagement and he didn't want to feel left out. I was perfectly ok with him having an engagement ring, too! If I'm off the market, so is he!
If your man had an e-ring, what does he do with it now? His wasn't expensive ($60 tungsten) and it just sits in my jewelry box.
