I love Dogster forums. A lot of people there really know their stuff. http://www.dogster.com/forums/
(And I'll admit I'm biased, but look into raw feeding your future dog!)
@abbyful: Thanks for the link, I will definitely check it out. I googled around a bit but again decided I could just ask the hive and get the answers I need! I've only heard a little bit about raw feeding - are there any concerns with drastically changing an older dog's diet? I don't know a whole lot about his history yet but I know the woman who has him now recently rescued him from a high-kill shelter, so who knows how many homes he has been shuffled through in his life, poor little guy. I just want to give him some stability and a great place to live!
One of my dogs was a senior when I switched them to raw, he adjusted just as quickly as my younger dogs. And I've seen many others do the same. With dogs, like humans, it's never to late to eat a healthier diet! :)
@abbyful: Thanks, I'll look into it. I've been on the Dogster forums for the past hour - so much good info!

Sorry, there are no users yet.
So I've posted a few times about thinking about getting a dog with my boyfriend. We were on the fence for a while but decided to keep browsing ads online in case anything jumped out at us. Well, today I read the story of an 11 year old mini dachshund and just about cried.. I immediately emailed the woman and have exchanged a few messages, she said that our living situation sounds like it could be perfect for this little guy! Only trouble is that someone else contacted her first and is going to meet him tonight, so if she decides to adopt him, we are out of luck. I'm trying not to get my hopes up but I will definitely be disappointed if it doesn't work out.
So anyway, I'm looking for suggestions for pet care forums, blogs, websites, etc. Feed my hunger for knowledge! Tips are good too, what do you girls have for me?
Also, she says he has just seen a vet and been given a clean bill of health (besides needing a good teeth cleaning). We would definitely take him to the vet ourselves if we adopt, but do you think we should have any specific concerns about adopting a "senior" dog?
Thanks!
