Te Compro tu Novia, is really great song for the dollar dance, but I"m guessing you think it's a little over-played? I wouldn't worry about the meaning behind the song too much. Maybe something that is very up-beat and danceable, for some reason "moviendo las caderas" just popped into my head. Something fun and tounge-in-cheek would be a good song to go with.
For a Mother-Son song, my favorite is always "Madre Mia" Sergio Vargas.

We are doing the dollar dance to la del mono colorado by my cousin Tobias Rene (you an listen to his music on ITunes.) it's not a merengue song because not many of my non-hispanic guests know how to dance to merengue. This way they can just sway back and forth in a fun upbeat way if they don't know how to dance to Mexican music.

Most people don't really ntice the music during the dollar dance. If you're set on Te Compro tu Novia, start with that and then leave the rest up to the discreation of the DJ. Just let the DJ know what kind of beat you want and let him run with it. No one will notice. Good luck!
