I use my phone for texting mostly.

FI is a truck driver so we do talk on the phone every evening, but when he’s home I really only use my phone to check the time.. or movie times.. lol.  😉

I think that my friends use texting and Facebook more now. It kinda drives me crazy because I personally like getting phone calls from friends and family.

I have one friend in particular who I’ll call, leave a voicemail asking her to call me back, and then she texts me back. It drives me absolutely mad that she thinks a text counts as a returned phone call.

I can’t really imagine not using my phone. I spend all day on the phone with clients because most of my phone calls are time sensitive and can’t wait for someone to open their email to get back to me.

I actually HATE texting. It’s annoying and time consuming. What takes 20 minutes to get said in a text conversation could be done in a 5 minute phone call. I have a friend who always texts me novels or wants to talk about her man problems, I pick up the phone and call her so we can finish that conversation and move on!

I don’t really like either – I’m more of an in-person type of gal. Though I do enjoy instant messaging with people I know well, I rarely text and I get phone anxiety with anyone but the closest friends and family.

I mostly use my cell phone for texting, but we have a land-line as well.  I do usually text, but sometimes will call if it’s something I need answered right at the moment.  We do have a land-line, and being that DH isn’t the biggest fan of emailing, we get plenty of phone calls at home.

I am in the minority apparently because I despise talking on the phone and getting phone calls ESPECIALLY “chit-chat” calls.  I prefer texts because I can see what you want then and there and respond.  We don’t have to go through pleasantries and idle chat we can just get to the point of the interaction.  But I never was one to enjoy talking on the phone even when it was considered “cool” to do so.

Plus, an added advantage of texting or other forms of written communication is that you now have a record of what was which has proven to be helpful to me in the past.

I remember reading this when it first came out, and found it totally alien. I talk to all my out of state friends on the phone quite often. If we’re really busy sometimes we’ll set a phone date, but usually we’ll just play phone tag for a bit until we’re both free.

I suppose it is true for my local friends, though. I virtually never talk to them on the phone, but that’s because I can see them in person. We’ll email or text to set up a time to meet for coffee or drinks, but I virtually never carry on long conversations via text.  Esp. becauase my phone is from the stone age and texting on it is awkward.

That article is fascinating! And so true! Truthfully, I am not wild about either making or receiving phone calls, and voicemail is just awful IMO. Way too intrusive and time consuming. E-mail and text are the ways to get ahold of me if you want a prompt response…or any response at all in some cases…

@misskarianne:  Thank you. I don’t mind starting conversations via text, but this one friend will just never call back. Sometimes, she’ll even FB message me to tell me that she got my voicemail. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves that she won’t pick up the phone to return my call!
