I think the beginning is always tough.  There’s so many big an small things to do, and figuring out the beginning point can be a bit tough.

A good starting point may be to make a to do list.  If you sign up for a wedding site like the knot or wedding wire, you’ll get an automatic “to do” list, which can be helpful. I find these lists sometimes to be a BIT over detailed, so maybe even starting with the big things.

Honestly, a good starting point may be to decide if you want a wedding that is strictly Mexican in tradition, strickly African American in tradition, or a blending of both.  That way, you have a framework to work within.  And this site is great–it has boards targeting all of those areas (Latino board, African American board, intercultural board).  That may help you get some ideas of where to go with that.

I think you’re at a good place, as you still have awhile to require any major decisions.  So, for now I’d say just start by deciding what you need to figure out, and then start figuring it out afterwards.  🙂

The very first thing we did was to decide WHERE we having the ceremony and what venue to use for the reception and booked them.

I had an idea of the theme I wanted so I just started browsing images for inspiration and went from there.

For my BM dresses I actually had the colors and style picked out pretty early on.
