- Wedding: June 2009
I dropped off my fiance’s platinum wedding band to get engraved on 2/18/2009. The ladies that worked at the Zales counter was very friendly and helpful saying that they will ask the jeweler to see if he thinks the engraving can be done. We wanted the engraving "C&S FOREVER".
As the ring was done, we were told we could pick it up. We went to the store to get our ring on 2/21/2009. One of the ladies there got our ring and looked at it herself first. After looking at the engraving for a little while, she said that the last R looks like a N. We looked at the engraving, as she said, the last letter "R" looks like a N being recarved into a R. It looked like a mess. The lady that was helping us was apologetic, and said that she will go talk to her manager to see what happens. After a while, the manager came over with a Jeweler’s lense, said, "oh, it’s a R, you have to look through the lense. That’s how a R should look like". My fiance said that he should not have to look through a lense to distinguish the letter engraved on the ring. Then she said to us that if she had been there, she wouldn’t even had taken the job. Then while I was looking at the engraving more, she proceeded to say that the ring was too thin which was the problem, and even asked if my ring was silver. She was not only unhelpful, but also had a very rude attitude. If the ring was messed up, as a manager, shouldn’t she be the leader trying to resolve the situation to accomodate the customers and apologize for the mistake rather than almost trying to put the blame on the customers? She almost just expected us to take the ring as it is, only when my fiance said that we just want the ring to be back like nothing was engraved in there, which was agreed on, but we left the shop feeling frustrated and helpless.
The manager that day really does not deserve to be in the management position. That’s no way to treat a customer in the retail business. Based on this experience, we may never go back to Zales for any business or recommend anyone we know to shop there. We were fine with the whole experience, even very happy with the lady that helped us in the shop that day until the manager came out and acted like a jerk to us to make us feel like we don’t even have the right to make the comment that the second "R" was messed up while the first "R" in forever was well carved in the ring. We wasted our time on this, and my platinum ring has to be processed through buffing. We never thought that our experience at Zales could be this unpleasant.
