ARE SO DAMN GHETTO! WTF!? Maybe this is going to offend someone but whatever. I just watched last night's episode of My Fair Wedding and I'm ten minutes in and I'm just shaking my head. That's all I'm going to say.
No...no I'm not. She's basically like, "Oh we're poor and thank goodness you are here David because I need a third dress. I need bling. I need this set up I saw at the grammy's. I'm bujetto! I'm half bujie and half ghetto!"
I wish one time there wasn't a stereotypical black woman on these shows. Ugh.
Wow, I've never heard of the term bujetto before.
You should go on the show, Miss Tattoo! (to break the stereotypes on these shows)
@ATP2011: Nah. I can't stand David Tutera and his hand in the wedding industry complex. The weddings he creates cannot be duplicated by average people. I mean, sure, they could save up for five years, but most of us can't have 10,000 roses and 100,000 rose petals and a high fashion photoshoot to have poster size photos at the wedding, three dresses, $250k in diamonds on our necks, ect. BUT you see brides trying to recreate it. You see them going into debt.
LIEK OMG! David Tutera says I can't have a place setting WITHOUT CHARGERS!
David Tutera says I can't have white garden chairs!
David Tutera says I can't have my venue here! It has to be the most expensive in the city.
lol
While it's nice for him to come in and do this for brides, I'm not into the over the top wedding industry. Plus, you know how he feels about tattoos and I would knock him out if he told me that I "won't look like a clean bride with all those tattoos showing."
He did it to so many tattooed brides.
Yes. I don't know if I can go into more detail without head-asploding or something like that.
On David Tutera:
FI's mom LOOOOOVES this David Tutera fellow, and is trying her darndest to find a way to get us a free wedding.
I told her to go ahead, hopefully she'd have better luck than my free dinner plan.
Then we all joked that I should pull the ghetto act, just to see if it would help things along.
While I'm not an AA bride i agree with you. I fee like the show is irritating because everything has to be PERFECT, it makes my wedding feel shitty.
Seriously! Because they find nothing but ghetto brides! The ghetto brides on Four Weddings never have enough space for who they invite and end up kicking people out to eat outside. You always have ghetto brides who skip and dodge on vendors! Like the one on Bridezilla's who couldn't pay her photographer and tried to get free services and then avoided him the night before the wedding. Ugh!
I should get a video camera and start acting ghetto and then ask for a wedding! I would be on TV in a matter of months!
@Miss Tattoo: oh I do remember that Bridezilla, I was shaking my head the whole time.
@SweetRose2011: and what about the bridezilla episode with the grown daughter who basically chased her moms fiance away!! She was acting like a damn fool the entire time!!! He ditched her at the alter and the daughter had the nerve to say she didn't mean any of it!
@Miss Tattoo: Or we could talk about ANY of the girls on Bridezillas. They are all a hot tranny mess. Every single one of them!
But...I kinda like David Tutera...he loves what he does and he's good at it AND the couples aren't the ones on Bridezillas!
But I also have a head on my shoulders that realizes those events cost in the MILLIONS. They are so over the top sometimes it's too much. But sometimes those girls are a mess and need help lol.
My question is what the hell happens to all the money you spent on your own wedding up until he shows up. You spent all the freaking money and then what? You spent it all basically to have it thrown away towards nothing. Plus, doesn't that kind of piss of the vendors you were going with? They get screwed too.
I've watched brides that were black, white and everything in between act ghetto and trashy. Black brides may stand out more, but most of the brides act a damn fool. These shows pick the biggest personality to create drama for ratings.
I prefer "Who's Wedding Is It Anyway" and "Rich Bride Poor Bride." Generally speaking, those shows are more realistic and less dramatic, IMO.
@MsBrooklynA: I'm sure that's addressed privately in some form, like a pay-out.
@MissHoneyBun: They better! I'm always thinking about how pissed I would be at David for just wasting all of my money even after you have this super awesome wedding. I wish they would also make his show in an area beyond NJ/NY
Ohhhh I remember that one. She made me sick, but then the mom turned around and still married him. She looked like an ass being left at the alter amd her daughter didn't care. They both pissed me off on that show. I miss watching bridezillas.
@MsBrooklynA: I would be pissed anyway! He basically goes to said venue and then trash talks it. "Ew, you can't have your wedding here at the..."
I wonder how much planning these brides have to do before auditioning. I'm sure they get notified way in advance if they are picked to be on the show. Who knows.
I have never seen this show. Hmm.... I will catch an episode or two. Does anyone know if it is on netflix?
@Miss Tattoo: Backtracking but omg to your comment about tutera/tattooed brides...that DRIVES ME NUTS. There was one episode about a couple who he did this whole Dia de los Muertos theme for, and he pretty much bullied her into airbrushing her ink away. The interviews with her about it, "Oh, Im glad I did it in the end," were so unconvincing. I felt so bad for her!
I know that the crazier you act, the more likely you are to get on these shows...I'm sure a lot of people play to stereotype just to get on. Sad.
@MsJeep23: I know!!! I think I've only see a few brides he lets slide but the tattoos are small or in a place where it won't be shown. The Marilyn Monroe girl had them all and down her arm and he covered them but LET her remove the airbrush for the reception. Isn't your wedding suppose to reflect YOU and not the industry?
Seriously, if I were on the show and he was like "I'm bringing in an airbrush artist to cover your tattoo's." I'd seriously find my inner ghetto and unleash it. lol
Honestly, I don't even think these shows are true "reality" TV anyway b/c you can tell that these women are basically hamming it up for the cameras. I guess to get a free, elaborate wedding, they think it's worth it. It makes for good entertainment.
@Miss Tattoo: I immediately thought of the Marilyn Monroe episode! In the beginning, he even promised to let her keep them, and then they switched to an outside view with him talking, and he was like, "There's no way I'm letting her keep those tattoos." Great, way to lie on national television :P.
I like the show, because it's kind of cool that he gives them really expensive weddings, but I wouldn't want one. They never really reflect the couple.
Back to the main topic: I've totally noticed that they usually pick out stereotypes to be on these shows. :P
@2shy2Bbf: I totally agree. I think all the brides, black, white, whatever!! act a hot ass mess. On many of the shows, I see brides of all colors with tacky, trashy tattoos, trying to dip out on responsibilities and vendors, yelling and cursing, and just being plain old trifling.
I think, sometimes, the AA women stand out more to me because I am AA, but overall, everyone acts like they don't have any sense!
I have to agree with most of you!! It's a shame to get an elaborate wedding you have to act a hot ghetto mess!! And what's that saying about the people who cast these girls? Is that how they really think we act or is it all just to have people look at the shows and say look at these trifling (bleeps) on this show and then have good laugh at how we allow ourselves to be portrayed in such a way? I personally will stop right when I see hoodrats in action and change the channel. My wedding venue looks like a million bucks and didn't cost a fraction of what you'd think I payed, same for my dress and cake as well. I just really wish that someone who didn't sound like she skipped every English and grammar class in high school could represent us on these shows!!
@2shy2Bbf: I prefer "Who's Wedding Is It Anyway" and "Rich Bride Poor Bride." Generally speaking, those shows are more realistic and less dramatic, IMO.
I watched Rich Bride Poor Bride yesterday and had to turn it off after 20 minutes of the black bride's "I need a pink pony! I'm a princess! I need a reception JUST FOR ME and three dresses because I am FAB-YOOO-LOUUUUS!!!" nonsense. The funny thing is, she was marrying a white guy, yet she was trying SO hard to fit into that "ghetto fabulous" black woman stereotype.
I actually like David Tutera a lot. Yes, the majority of the population can't afford one of his blow-out bashes, but that's kind of the point of the show. To give someone who otherwise couldn't afford something like that their dream wedding. It's not like he's busting in and changing someone's wedding who didn't specifically ask for it. And I'm sure the vendors already booked aren't left high and dry.
But I digress: the ghetto black brides are ridiculous. Of course, so are the trailer trashy white brides. Remember that one black bride on Bridezilla who thought everyone was in love with her who was all nasty looking? Who wanted to be addressed as "Queen Brown?" Makes you wonder how much of it is genuine and how much of it is a total act for the cameras.
I'm so glad someone else said it! My fiance and I were watching David's latest show and we were both so annoyed. Rich Bride/Poor Bride this week wasn't any better, she was just so ridiculous wanting a pink pony and one reception for groom and another for her. My fiance was like, how did a girl like that get a ring?
@Miss Tattoo: I haven't seen David Tutera's show. But I absolutely HATE how black women are portrayed on most shows and definitely on reality shows. If I have to hear the term "baby daddy" or "wifey" one more time I might just scream. It's sad that being an uneducated, hoodrat is being glorified. That is not the way I would like for someone to stereotype me. And seeing as I actually have a good head on my shoulders, that would never happen. Uggh!
@lezlers: wait was that the one where she was enagaged to the grooms best friend and she was on the radio show acting crazy?
I saw the show and am hoping that the bride last night was just playing things up for the sake of the whole "rescue" thing that David Tutera has going on. The bride seemed sincerely humbled and grateful at the end and the words exchanged at the ceremony were well written, beautiful and far from ghetto in my opinion.
But yeah, I prefer the more realistic shows like Whose Wedding and Rich Bride,Poor Bride too.
This must have been a season premiere show (My Fair Wedding) and I missed it. And uh glad I did. That is so annoying.
All of them are crazy. Ghetto black, white trash, corny Latina with the clearly exaggerated Washington Heights accents and elastane jeans. It's not just the Negroes this time!
@sueanddemetrius: She did seem grateful in the end, but her "bujetto" attitude throughout the whole show was just a turn off. I'm pretty sure you can't fake ghetto. Believe me, I try sometimes. I fail each time. lol
I love you ladies and glad this thread is fun :) Those shows are for the most part extremely ridic regardless of who is on them! I've watched several minutes of a couple and WOW. Bridezillas --- REALLY? I always feel so freaking sorry for the groom.
@Aubergold: Totally agree. There are SO many stereotypes of every race. Drama sells!!!! lol
@Miss Tattoo: LOL, I try to fake it too sometimes-and people just laugh at me.
@sueanddemetrius: Yeah...I suck at it big time. Like I hurt my neck trying to do the swivel thing lol. Didn't work out at all.
I know there are other stereotypes on the show, but since I'm black I'm pointing out the black ones. I'm sure the other race brides have a bone to pick with the people they pick to be on these shows. I mean, I'm sure the whole Italian race is pissed at Jersey Shore and those losers.
@Miss Tattoo:Yeah and the whole state of New Jersey must be pissed at those couples who are on the show"My Big Friggin Wedding"....they are just shameful!
@Miss Tattoo: yes!! AND she called the ex to get more money, saying she needed it for the kids when she was planning on using it for the wedding. In front of her fiancee. Bitch had no shame. I seriously wanted to jump through the TV and smack her across her ugly ass face.
Whew! Hoodrat got me heated!
And there was some other chick on Bridezillas who said to her FI "you think SHE gonna wifey you?" Huh? What does that even mean? How did being a wife turn into a verb? How does one "wifey" someone else? Never felt more white in my whole life.
And can someone PLEASE explain to me why all of these women drive expensive cars? There's something so wrong about trying to swindle your vendors because you allegedly don't have any money while riding around in a Mercedes SUV.
Before I was engaged, I watched those shows all the time but now I can only stomach Tutera every once in a while. Too much cheese hurts my belly lol...
BUT! These women talking about it's all about me and I need 15 dresses because I'm all that and you WISH you could be me... yeah you're right I wish I was you, so your crazy self would SIT DOWN and give your poor family a much needed break from you running your mouth all doggone day!
I watched about 10 minutes of the Rich Bride Poor Bride mess and wanted to throw my shoe at that "bride". why in the hell do you need a PONY at your SECOND reception... SO many things wrong with that...just a hot mess and all I can say is SMH.
With David Tutera I think he really tries to take uncooth women and get them to be classed up. So enter hoodrattery.
I do cringe a lil bit when I hear some of the stories, like homegirl that had 5 (I think) kids before homeboy popped the question. And she had just lost her job (albeit a professional career). Now, I am not saying that women from all walks of life don't lead the unwed mom life, but I just SMH at the fact that they had to show one more untraditional black family. Like we don't have enough of those examples!
Well, its entertainment...so, if she chooses to act that way, she should be enbarrassed. I dont look to other black women to represent me. But note also, that everyone that may have come from the "ghetto" or "hood" does not behave nor speak that way....being "ghetto" is a way of life for some people, and I dont know anyone who would choose to act "ghetto"...thats like someone telling a well spoken black person that they talk "white"
