Cute idea...I saw something like that on Whose Wedding is it Anyway.
If you do glazed or iced donuts, I'd imagine they may melt a little bit.
i've seen it before and done very nicely =) the weather could be an issue, but just keep the from direct sun and it should be okay.

I went to a wedding last summer with donuts in place of traditional cake and it was a hit! I didn't hear anyone say they missed cake!
Mmmm yum! I saw Krispy Kreme favors one time...their baker frosted little flowers/leaves on the doughnuts, and they put them in cute boxes for everyone to take home!
I love that idea - probably because we are doing something very similar. Our catering company will be making fresh donuts and serving them with shots of milk! I'm so excited. They won't be out on display because they will be made right before serving. We are also going to have a cake because I don't want to regret not having a wedding cake. We are getting married in July as well.

My BFF is getting married next weekend and shes having Krispy Kreme boxes (2 donuts per box) as parting gifts. They are also huge KK fan! I'll have to take a picture and post it next week!
I think that's a great idea and we are considering it for our groom's cake! My fiance's a police officer, so we thought we'd just promote that stereotype a little more in a delicious way... haha.
I actually have quite a few inspiration pics on hand for this topic, but none of flowers... please don't judge me :)
My personal favourite wedding-wise are the powdered, or the coconut covered ones.

Mmmm I can remember when we used to have a Krispy Kreme near my parents' house and I'd drive by it before work back when I had a crazy fast metabolism and I'd stop in sometimes to get a hot and fresh donut! The sign would be on when they were ready to go hot and fresh!
The smell eminating from that place was delectable! Cheers to donut brides!
I swear I'd go on a diet just to attend a reception like that!
Sounds delicious. I saw a picture recently (don't remember where and I didn't think to bookmark it) where they took a cakestand similar to the first picture posted and covered it in every type of donut, and even had them on the table around the base of the stand. It looked really nice.
Thanks for the pictures! You have no idea. This brings the biggest smile to my face!!!! I love donuts. Since I am dieting right now, I can't have any. I probably won't have any until our wedding day! But on THAT day, you bet I will have me some donuts!!!
We are also doing doughnuts for our wedding cake and have rented a pretty platter to display them all. It will be fall in Michigan on our big day and we are getting the doughnuts from a local cider mill. Yummy!
I got married in August 2010 and we did Donuts(we did mexican wedding cookies too) instead of Cake, people LOOOVED

FI and I were just talking casually about how much I loved donuts. Then we started talking about Krispy Kreme. I don't know how it we got on the subject of wedding cake but I said wouldn't it be to have donuts instead of a cake....and FI said sure!
I explained that we could probably do a small top cake and the tiers be donuts. FI said he liked the idea. I made sure he was serious...and he is!!!! I love love love donuts!
Is this a crazy idea or great idea?
Only concern, we will be getting married outside in July. Will that affect donuts?
