My wedding is in downtown L.A. this November. I was born and raised in L.A. but I don't know a whole lot about the downtown area (kinda embarrassing!) We want to take pics before our ceremony and are hoping to get some nice architectural shots and other cool backgrounds that show off downtown L.A. at its finest!
Anyone have any good suggestions/recommendations for places to take pictures in downtown?
Definately Disney Concert Hall, or the whole area that makes up the music center (Dorothy Chandler, Ahmanson). Angel's Flight is a historic little streetcar/trolley thing that goes up the hill downtown. The Rose Garden at Exposition Park accross from USC is nice also. The front of the Central Public library might also give you some good pix. Let us know where you decide!
There's the fountain in front of Dorothy Chandler, and then if you go across the street (I think it's Grand) and down the stairs, there's a public park with a large dramatic fountain. You could also do urban skyscraper type shots around the Library Tower on Bunker Hill, there's the "Spanish Steps" that lead down the library from Bunker Hill. Also the Catholic Cathedral on Temple Street has interesting architecture, even if you're not Catholic. And Vibiana's cathedral on Main (?) is newly restored.
Thanks ladies!! All of these locations are great ideas for the wedding pictures. We will definitely check out all of these places - the streetcar sounds amazing. And the public library is across the street from our venue, so that's a go too. I'll let you know our final decision. Thanks again for your helpful responses!
I used to live in Downtown LA, and all the above suggestions are fabulous choices for photos! In addition to them, the Second Street Tunnel has a clean, modern, urban feel to it, especially at night when it's all lit up!
Ditto on the Union Station and Walt Disney Concert Hall. I had my engagement pics there too and everything came out really well. PM me w/your email address if you want to see the pics.
PM me for my email address and I'll send you a link to our engagement photos. We're also getting married downtown and we wanted to do our engagement shoot all around downtown. We ran around to several different locations. The Bradbury building is awesome! And no it wasn't in Breakfast at Tiffany's :-( but it was in Bladerunner! I also have a link to this awesome website with a map of historic places in Downtown LA and when you click on the place it gives you a photo. Sort of a non walking photo tour of LA.
