I spent around $150 on my diaper bag... it's cute but I don't LOVE it. The one thing that I do LOVE about it... It's seperate zippered bag for diapers and wipes. I don't use my diaper bag anymore (he's 18mo) but I take that little bag with me everywhere. The moms in my playgroups are all jealous of it. Otherwise, large outside pockets are good.
I suggest just buying a large purse that you like, and the adding the baby accessories to it... like the smaller diaper pouch, pacifier holder, mesh bag to put extra outfits in (I'd need to take 2 with me when he was little and the mesh bag kept them together in my bag), etc.
I love my Lassig diaper/messenger bag! I have one of the messenger bags with a removable front so I can swap out the look for different occasions.
I have not used it yet but I just got the Vera Bradley Baby bag last week at a VB outlet. My husband saw a lady with a baby in the store and asked her about it and she loved that dang bag so much she would not shut up about it! So that convinced me. Now I just have to wait 5 months to use it! Which is hard, cause it's so cute.
Petunia Pickle Bottom! I've had a BUNCH of diaper bags (Columbia, SkipHop, etc.) and this is, without a doubt, the best. The changing pad, the way it's set up, the size, etc., etc. are PERFECT. And I *love* having the backpack option so I can have my hands free. Can't recommend it enough!
I haven't had LO, yet, but I'm also in love with Penutia Pickle Bottom. Mine (touring tote) came w/ 3 straps (long, short, stroller).
I'm a Coach girl in every aspect! I got last seasons diaper bag for half price at an outlet and I'm really excited to use it. One of my good friends got one of their regular tote bags and she loves it as her diaper bag.
I love the diaper bag because it has all the dividers and compartments in it and it feels like one of my own purses.
I really really really really want a juicy couture diaper bag but they seem so small...but they're so cute!
My DREAM diaper bag is one by an Etsy seller named Watermelon Wishes! I LOVE her "pick your own fabric" option. Check her out!
I also have this great Ergo baby changing pad...Its more for quick runs out vs an all day excursion. Its just big enough to hold 4-5 diapers wipes and one outfit and it folds out as its own changing pad.

My BFF gave me the Vera Bradley bag and although I haven't had the baby yet, I love it and it is so cute!
Mrs DG--You have the carrier like this? This pad is made to clip onto the carrier like a backpack. It works on my Becco carrier also. Sounds perfect for hiking, going to the park etc.
And since its gray I think I can actually get my hubby to carry it also.
A little interruption from an "older" mom. Y'all are so lucky. You probably have no idea what it was like finding diaper bags in the 1990's. LOL. I remember being SO freakign excited when my second child was born (1997) and I found a BLACK diaper bag that wasn't an arm and a leg. Prior to that your choices were basically one of these two: (and no offense if you like these but man, I sure longed for choices back in the day!---
and the maternity clothes were just as bad!)

@Mrs. DG: Hey, hey! Finally committed and bought a Lassig messenger diaper bag. Figure I can wear it hands free and dig in at the same time. Yay, it took me many weeks to finally decide but it's on the way!
Besides diapers/wipes/bag, feeding, outfits, and some toys, anyone have a special stash in their bag that might be helpful to suggest to a new mom, like me? Someone mentioned an emergency plastic bag.
Purell. If you are cloth diapering definitely you'll have your wet bag. I've got a blanket in there too and some lotion and tylenol.
I'm in love with this OiOi bag...
I love the fact that it doesn't look like a diaper bag at all! Bonus
It's about $160. I thought it was about average so some of the nicer bags

It is a diaper bag that you are able to purchase shells (to change the outside covers for different outfits or occasions. That way, if your kid gets older and you still want to have a big purse that doesn't look like a diaper bag, the big Miche bag is the way to go! I sell them as well
@JennyChicago: I LOVE that bag ... one day, when I am pregnant I am going to have to send that link to my sisters and mom (we are all Coach lovers - and I got an ivory leather coach clutch as a wedding shower gift - so a girl can hope!)
@MsInterpret: You just caused me to have flashbacks, lol! When my son was born in 1998 I had a blue plaid Winnie the Pooh diaperbag. Then I thought it was adorable.....now, not so much, lol! I love how the diaper bags now are so stylish, and if I were ever to have another child (highly unlikely) then I'd get a Coach diaperbag. I love big purses!
@Mrs. DG: Hubby loves our brand new Lassig messenger bag! Just got the grey pinstriped one (not girlie at all--sigh) as a compromise, knowing he would appreciate the quality and organization of it when he saw it. It's so manly but practicality won out. Since he'll be carrying it (haha!) I figured I have to make it palatable to his taste!
I really love the diaper bags that Kate Spade has!
This is my favorite. I don't have kids so I can't comment on how useful it is, but my FSIL has it in the black/green and loves it! And I definitely think it would make an adorable beach tote when you don't need it as a baby bag anymore!
I personally haven't extensively searched for diaper bags, but my sister was obsessed with getting a Petunia Picklebottom bag. Alas, the price (even for used ones) was too much and she went with something plain, black, and inexpensive.

@808bride: We did the same thing (grey and manly), and I'm glad because when we're out together he always ends up carrying it! Small price to pay for help, right? :)
My advice is not to spend too much on a diaper bag until you have the baby and know what works for you. I had 2 diaper bags when my daughter was born. One I stalked until it went on sale and was THRILLED when I got it, but it ended up being totally impractical for me. I always thought I wanted one that looked like and could function like a purse and not look like a diaper bag. So, I got 2 bags that were more like purses. They had plenty of room, but I found that carrying something on my shoulder wasn't practical, so I ended up shoving in the bottom of the stroller. Then, anytime I needed something, I had to dig under the stroller to get it out. It also took up all the storage space under the stroller. I ended up returning the other bag I bought, which I thankfully kept the tags on, and getting this bag (in a different pattern), which straps onto the stroller. I couldn't be happier with it. Its easily accessible and holds plenty. I'm not saying this will work for you, just warning you that what you think you want now, might not actually work for you in the end. If you do buy something, keep the tags on it until you know for sure.

So I've been getting most of my baby stuff and maternity clothes from friends but I want to treat myself to something new to celebrate the second trimester. Anyone have suggestions for a great diaper bag? I'm willing to splurge a little, hoping it might double for a large purse/swim bag one day. Also, I'm open take advice on 'must haves' for the diaper bag.
