I feel like I am being a total brat. I’m not the type of person to normally get all crazy-girly about a dress (so I thought) but here I am, awake at 5 am thinking about this.
I tried on a dress out of my price range at the beginning of my dress search. It is a Monique Lhullier and I just love the way it looks and feels on my body. The details are so nice. The bodice fits beautifully on my small frame and small chest. When I tried it on, we all sighed. (Being me, my sister, my nieces and the sales lady) Anyway, here are some pictures: http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/dresses/2287/Monique-Lhuillier–Mikayla-Size-6.html
And here is the dress that I have already put a deposit on: http://www.recycledbride.com/listing/3185/jasmine-t292.
It is a Jasmine Couture. The liked the shape of the Jasmine and I liked that it was puffy. I wasn’t crazy about the bodice being beaded or straight across my chest, but I thought it would do since I liked other things about the dress. I do like the dress, but that’s it. I LIKE it. I LOVE the Monique.
I ended up with the Jasmine dress because of money. I just couldn’t justify spending so much money on a dress. The Monique is 3x the Jasmine. We just bought a house and we have a baby. However, they are both asleep in bed right now while I am awake thinking about a dress!
What do I do? What do I do about the Jasmine dress? I am supposed to get fitted next week and I have cold feet!
By the way, I’m getting married in TWO MONTHS! Help!
If it matters this is my venue:http://www.fondren.org/about_cedars.html
These are my bridesmaids dresses (They probably match the Jasmine more): http://watters.com/product.php?coll=wtoo&showid=2462

I know this advice comes too late but… Never try on a dress you can’t afford! Never test drive a car you can’t afford either! It will only lead to heartache!
In my experience, brides who have dress-regret normally cure themselves by making extra trips to see the dress they bought, try it on again, and feel like a bride in it. The more you try on this dress, the more it’ll grow on you.
Personally I think the Jasmine is perfect for your country setting Mississippi wedding, based on what I see of the venue. And are those pockets on your dress? How cool is that?!

I like the Jasmine dress MUCH better!

I definitely think that a bride should love her wedding dress, however if the one you like is out of your budget then you shouldn’t stretch yourself beyond your means. How would you pay for the more expensive gown?
It’s kind of counterproductive to obsess over something you can’t have. I’d say keep looking and see if you find something that you like better but is still within your budget. Or see if you can have your current one altered a bit so you like it better (most dresses can have the neckline converted to a sweetheart).

As someone who returned her original dress AND has a ML dress herself, I thought it would be easy to say – Go for it and get the ML!! That being said, I love the dress you have, it goes perfectly with your venue and your BM dresses, your wedding is in 2 months, and you won’t spend a ton of extra money! (Not to mention it’s gorgeous!!) You are going to look absolutely beautiful in it and you’ll be able to afford to pay the photographer so you have pics to always remember it!

I absolutely LOVE the Jasmine dress. It’s beautiful! While the ML is nice, for the cost, I just can’t justify it. Then again, if you *really* love it, I do recommend you go for your dream dress to avoid regret later on. But, Jasmine gets my vote, hands down!

As someone who exchanged her dress for another, my best advice to you is make a decision and stick with it. Go with your instinct. All that matters is that YOU think you look beautiful. Both dresses are beautiful – which do you feel most beautiful (and comfortable… elegant… etc.) in?
Also – which do you think your fiance would love the most?

I vote for the jasmine too! I actually prefer it to the ML!
Can you maybe talk to the seamstress about the beading (see if she can change it somehow) and maybe turn the straight neckline into a sweetheart???? Then maybe you will LOVE your dress more than the ML and it will still be affordable!?!?!

I agree with the others here. I prefer the Jasmine dress. I think it goes with your venue better and I love the pockets. With that said, I am sure you can ask a seamstress to convert the neckline to a sweetheart (there should be enough time for that). I too prefer a sweetheart neckline.
Like you, I mistakenly tried on a dress that was over my price range and loved it. But I ended up with a more cost-effective alternative because I knew I would never forgive myself for spending so much on a dress, especially since I also have a mortgage to pay. Although the alternative did not capture my heart like the expensive dress did, it has grown on me and I now love it. I have it sitting in the back of my office door and anytime I see a dress online that I like (there are so many!), I take it out of the bag, drape the train and fall in love with it all over again.
On the otherhand, if you absolutely hate the Jasmine dress, I suggest you keep looking. With only 2 months left you would have to buy something off the rack that will require little alterations. Good luck!

honestly, i like the one you already have….

This is so silly, but the link above isn’t even the right ML dress! Here it is:
It is $3700 unless I can find it used. I honestly feel prettier in the ML, but maybe that isn’t everything?

i like the jasmine one much much more!

The Monique is nice from the back, but I don’t like the way it’s making a triangle towards your privates… Stick with the Jasmine. I love the pockets!

Yes. Keep your dress! So great and such a good fit for your day. You will look gorgeous! No worries!
