So I have found my dream venue, it’s absolutely gorgeous. One problem- music/bar must shut at 11pm!? I want people to dance and drink.
Argh. What do I do? What time did your reception shut? Is that too early for anyone to have fun?
Thanks in advance.

@futurejhart: We were definitely winding down by that time. I expected a much bigger problem when I clicked on this thread!

I think that’s fine. Most people complain when you have to end by 9 or 10. My reception went from 7 – 11 and people danced and drank. We had a little afterparty at the hotel bar.

I think it’s fine. Mine was 7pm-midnight. It was at a hotel ballroom and they arranged a private area in one of the bars there for an after party (cash bar for that), so the party went on. Is there a nearby place you can do something like that at?

@futurejhart: Where are you located? Our venue shuts down at 10 pm, since it’s regulated that way.
Maybe move up the wedding or take it to an afterparty at a bar that goes later. I’m doing a day wedding since things will shut down at 10 pm, and I hope people have fun the entire time, not just for the dancing / drinking part!

No worries! How long is reception?….as long as reception is at least 4 hours it should be perfectly fine ending at 11. Does the venue have a bar you can all continue the fun at that’s always an option…

@futurejhart: Mine’s 4-9 (ish). I’ve been at weddings that start around 7 and end at 11 because of the venue, then we all went to the afterparty.

I think 11 is plenty late. The venue we’re looking at this weekend has all weddings end by 11:30. If you still want to drink/party more, host an after party! That’s our plan!

We’ll have our venue from 6-11:30pm, I think is perfectly fine, although we are a bunch of partiers, so maybe we’ll get together somewhere after the reception.

The reception would start at 5pm ish with canapes and drinks. Unfortunately, there are no bars nearby as it is a vineyard wedding

our friends got married in july and rented out a section of a bar for the post-party. they also rented transportation to take us from the venue to the bar and it worked out really well, i thought. our friends are drinkers/dancers though so it was a necessity to have an after party!
ETA: ah just saw your update about there being no local bars. that sucks : (

Never because our venue was a rented beach house and we rented it through the Monday after our wedding. I partied until about 1AM and my husband closed things down around 4AM.

11pm is pretty late! I wouldn’t see it as a problem!

Our ceremony was super short and started at 5:00, and I think we had to close down at 10:30 and have everyone out by 11:00. It was totally fine. Honestly I was exhausted by then and wanted to go home, haha.

@futurejhart: start your ceremony a little earlier so you can party until 11. i think that is a good time to end actually.
