Hello bees! I need some advice. What to do about my dress? Here are my choices: stick with the one I have, which I think is lovely, or order a custom one from Jasmine's which I *hope* would be amazing?
Option A: My current dress from Macy's, pictured below. (I would have the neckline altered so it's more open/less of a V and the straps/sleeves would be thinner on my chest.)
Pros: It was a great price ($110!!) - it's simple and will fit well with our semi-casual festive outdoor event - it's stretchy so I can dance and play lawn games easily - I already know it fits well.
Cons: It's pretty but not drop-dead gorgeous and stunning... I guess that's the only major con. But it DOES fit my bridal vision - relaxed, not frilly/poofy, fitted.

Option B: I am very tempted to order a dress from Jasmine's inspired by the Claire Pettibone Chantilly. (Pics below are their replica itself.)
Pros: Like so many other women, I've seen this dress on Pinterest and thought it was the most amazing gorgeous thing I've ever seen - it's not SO fancy that it would look out of place at our wedding - I can definitely afford to get it (but I certainly don't have unlimited funds and I don't *need* to spend that much on a dress either)
Cons: I haven't tried it on so I don't know it would look great (but the shape is similar-ish to my current dress) - it would cost about $730 including shipping, >$600 more than my current one, not including any alterations that might be necessary - I don't think it'd be as stretchy and forgiving as my current dress - no return policy if I don't love it when I get it
Basically, I don't know whether to stick with the inexpensive and nice dress I have, or take a risk ordering what might be my dreamm dress? Also, I guess I should maybe try on the Chantilly? ... there's a bridal shop that carries Claire Pettibone a few hours away that I could visit...
I would so appreciate any advice - thanks ladies!
omg... you HAVE to go with the jasmine dress. Your macy's dress is pretty (I saw it on the other post when you first got it) but my draw dropped when I saw the jasmine dress and that's jsut on the mannequin!
I do really love your first dress. It looks beautiful on you. However! When I saw the second dress my jaw kind of dropped a little bit. It is absolutely gorgeous! I think it will be perfect for your figure!
Thanks ladies, I appreciate it. I agree, the second one is just so stunning... obviously I can't afford the original, but the replica looks SO good.
I saw that replica and I was awed as well. Really one of Jasmine's best works!
Since you can afford it, I would definitely go with the 2nd dress!
Wowwwwwwwwwww that second one. The back of it. Second one. For sure.
Go with the second dress. You have a lovely figure and the first dress doesn't do it justice.
I actually think that the first one matches your theme perfectly and its cheap enough that you will feel free to play any lawn games that you want without worrying.
But I can tell that you really love the second dress. I say that if you can afford it without any problems get it!
B! B! You'd look so gorgeous in it...and it's still low maintenance! Dance away!
@lolot: you only get married once, the jasmine oneis DROP DEAD GORGEOUSSSSSSSS

Thank you! Well it's good to know there's a pretty strong consensus! It's really nice to hear from you - I don't want to talk to my fiance about it and my friends aren't super girly-girly (neither am I), so I don't want to obsess about dresses too much in real life... ;)
My parents are paying for most of the wedding and even though it's pretty inexpensive as far as weddings go, I don't really want to ask them for any other expenses. But if I save $75 as month then I can get what would *hopefully* be my dream dress.... that seems like a pretty good exchange right?
I would def go and try on the sample before you order the replica, but I do agree that the replica is stunning and would prob look FAB on you!
thanks chicas - appreciate it!
@angelicd77: I definitely would like to try it on, but the nearest store that carries Claire Pettibone is 2.5 hours away, plus I'm a terrible liar and I feel like they'll know I am not actually going to buy the original designer dress... Ugh. It's probably still a good idea to do it though. I'll just get my (faux) rich girl attitude on!
@lolot: I would definitely go with the 2nd dress, the first dress doesn't even compare with the the 2nd one! I would definitely return the 1st one from Macy's and recoup your money if you can. Or if you can't you could wear both dresses, one for the ceremony and the Macy's dress for the reception. But I would definitely go with the dress you love. I agree, you only get married once! I had that issue too, I got a dress early on and the more I looked at I realized I didn't like it that much. I spent almost twice as much on the dress that I loved! But your wedding day only comes once so go for it especially if you can afford the luxury!
I would definitely go to the store that is a 2.5 hours from you and try on the dress. Who cares if you don't buy a dress from them, I had that issue with a bridal salon I went to and I ignored it when they snubbed me for not wanting to buy one of their overpriced wedding gowns. The lace detail on the 2nd dress is to just GORGEOUS!! I am sure the fit will be you fine, you have a fabulous figure!
I say wear both during your wedding! Order the Jasmine replica and wear that during the ceremony, than do a dress change into the gown from Macy's for the reception/partying part of the celebration. Win win, you get the dress of your dreams while still utiliziing the first gown that you bought, plus you said its super comfy and stretchy for ease of dancing!
Am I the only one who doesn't like the 2nd dress? I feel like it's just.. weird. Yuck yuck yuck. It looks like a 90s prom dress. The lace on the back is really pretty though!
The one you already bought just looks so nice. It's beautiful and I love the layers. The neckline is very flattering too (admittedly moreso if you alter it!) Plus you said it's comfortable. You obviously picked it for a reason!
No more looking at dresses :) I have that problem too. lol
Thanks ladies... I'm going to ponder for a while :)
@OnceUponATime: I DO need to stop looking at other dresses. But honestly the main reasons I chose the one I have were that it was the first dress I looked at, it was a great price, I really liked it on, and I didn't have to go to a bridal store, haha. Maybe not the very best of reasons... but I do really like it.
Definitely try it on before you order it!!!! You'll know exactly what you want to do when you try on the second dress.
@Christy42213: Thanks lady - I think I will after the holidays. I'll just get my fake rich girl attitude on and go try on a few, including this one :) I think you're right that seeing it on would definitely let me know yay or nay.
#2. But try on the chantilly first so you know if there are any changes you want them to make. It will be beautifullll and you don't want to be sitting there in your Macy's dress thinking "what if?". If you don't like the replica, you will probably be able to sell it so that you don't lose too much money. Worth the risk IMO
Omg with... like a z or something in front of it.
Definitely have to go with the Jasmine's replica. It looks like it'd fit you perfectly! And the back is awesome!
@lolot: lol, maybe not the best reasons :P The only thing that matters, though, is that you wear what will make you happiest!!
Thanks all! @Caroheart: Good point that trying it on = seeing any features that could be adjusted on a custom dress...
I voted for dress 1 just because you listed a lot of cons on the replica dress, and the uncertainty of it kind of scares me.
But in complete honesty, the second dress is insanely gorgeous.
@E_Lynne615: thanks, that's my EXACT thought process too! ha. I'm going to try it on after the holidays and go from there - that would resolve some of the uncertainties.
@lolot: Look forward to hearing how it went when you go to try it on as I think you will know for sure then whether to order it or not. I wouldn't worry too much about the stores reaction to you not buying it right away, buying a dress is a big decission and they should understand you might need time to think about it, it's in their interest to be nice to you! lol!
It's great that you've seen that Jasmines have already made that dress, they hadn't made mine before but they still did an above amazing job.
Eitherway I'm sure your first dress won't be wasted, as others have suggested you could wear it for your reception, or you could even save it to wear on your anniversary
@happylizzle: Thank you! I'm sure you're right and that a lot of women try on dresses without buying... it's a serious commitment.
For the Chantilly, YES, after seeing pix from another bee's dress, WOW! It looks so good. I had thought previously about having them make this dress, but it seemed so intricate that I wasn't sure it'd be possible.
I just looked at your thread about your mid-production pictures. How exciting! It looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing pictures on you when it arrives!
The first is nice but the second is a show stopper! If you can afford the second i say go for it =D
@lolot: I think this CP copy is lovely in the back. I don't know the quality of materials, though, but $750 seems reasonable for it.
@myluverbuny: Thanks! It's definitely over my original (somewhat random) budget but I *can* afford it...
@pengoala: thanks! I'm going to wait to see how this replica looks on the bee who ordered it (who's being very patient about me being all excited about her dress!). I also want to try on the original... but I'm going out of town for a month, so I'll figure it out after that :)
@FauxPas2012: Hi - I did see your original comment and I agree, it looks a little different on the bottom panel. I would actually prefer not to have something that would require bustling though, so I think the way they designed this would work well. (Even though yes, the original bottom is gorgeous!) I'll be curious to see the pix of this replica on the dress' owner. Thanks lady! :)
The second dress is gorgeous! And if you can't return the first dress, there is nothing wrong with having two dresses instead!
I am totally doing 2 dresses for mine, one which I absolutely love but know I can't party much in, and another style which allows me to move and dance! :)
@lolot: you said

Well, I was wrong, sorry! The photos of the CP dress just look more--elegant--than the replica dress but I do not know if that is the cut (becuase they do share a similar cut) or what it is.
