I am getting married July 3rd and I called to make an appointment for alterations. The seamstress put me on the schedule to come in at the end of April. She said that it doesn't work out really well doing alterations too far ahead of time because people lose/gain weight and then it all has to be redone (which doesn't always look as good - especially depending on the type of fabric). She asked that if I was intentionally trying to lose weight that I do so and am at a stable level before the end of April.
I was told to call in February for a mid April appointment. My wedding is at the end of May. They said it's a little earlier than usual because it's busy season.
Don't make the fitting too early! A lot of brides lose weight due to stress before the wedding...so you want to make sure your dress still fits!
I had to take in a bridal size 10 dress to fit my street size 2 body. I've already gone in for my 1st fitting and will go in for my 2nd next week. I never fluctuate that much in weight, like 2-3 lbs MAX in my adult life, so I'm not worried that my size will change drastically between now and June. That said, my seamstress did tell me that she will gladly see me back in May if I want any last minute changes made. I love her! :)
This will depend on the seamstress you use and when you are ready with your undergarments and shoes. If you already know what seamstress you are going to use work it out with them. If you are looking for a seamstress start looking now and when you find one you are comfortable with, talk to them and work out the time you are both comfortable with.
We have some brides that come in a year in advance and others wait until the a day or two before the wedding. I don't recommend waiting until a few days before but it can be done if there is an emergency.

Sorry if this questions seems a little simple but I don't know the answer. But how far in advance should I do my dress alterations? And should I make my appointments even farther in advance? I'm not sure if these things book up. Thanks :)
