Hello bees! I need to buy my dress now because I only have 5 months before the wedding. But have started recently a pretty good diet and expect to loose between 10 to 17 pounds in the next few months.
I am concerned that if I buy my dress now it will not fit the same…but the store said that it can be altered to a smaller size if necessary, but for now to buy it with my current size.
Is it safe to alter a dress one to two sizes? Anyone who had this experience?? Any thoughts on maybe kinds of dresses that are easier to alter and ones that arent? I am looking at David Bridals, Oleg Cassini and Vera Wang.
THANKS DEAR BEES!!

Defintely a safe bet, altering by 2 sizes i think is pretty standard. I would also say that most times, even with the best intentions our weightloss efforts never go as planned so it is better so err on the side of caution. It is a lot easier to take a dress in than let it out 🙂

I was in your shoes back in January and I went against everyone’s advice and bought a smaller size. While it worked for me – it caused me a LOT of stress and worry and everyone advised against it. In the end I could have just altered and saved myself loads of worry – just take it in!

Thanks bees! I am glad to hear this is tends to happen and that others have gone through similar situations. I almost waited until 2 to three months before the wedding before starting to look just because I was ‘waiting’ to loose the weight. What was I thinking? thanks again for the support!!

The store is right. Order it the size you are now and have it altered. Any dress can go down two dress sizes (so 4 numbers, like 8 to 4), but very few dresses can be let out. Also, everyone should have their dress altered when it comes in anyway, and whether they take it in 2 inches or 5, the cost is almost always the same, so you’ll be spending that money on alterations anyway.
