it depends on the person doing your alterations. i’ve read that brides on here start like 3-4 months ahead, i think that’s crazy. I went in on dec 1st for my dec 21st wedding and she had the dress done in a week. she did a bustle and took out the sides a little

The bridal shop where my dress is from told me to come back around 1-2 months before the wedding to start alterations.

i started my alterations about 2.5 months before the wedding, when the dress came in.

i was ready in plenty of time.

You should really ask the person doing your alterations. Since my first consultation with my seamstress was less than 60 days before the dress needed to be finished, I was charged a rush fee. It was only an additional $30 and the dress was finished on time, but it was an extra charge that could have been avoided if I had just called them earlier and checked.

Honestly, with a date in May, I would start calling around and see if they still have availability. Its not that you need to start alterations 2-3 months out, its that the seamstresses book up quickly, especially if the wedding falls during “wedding season”.  A good seamstress will only take on so many “orders” during a span of a few months to ensure that they have enough time to do quality work.    I had a June wedding, and some seamstresses in my area were booked up by January.

@blankenshiptobe:  My wedding is 5/3 as well and I just scheduled my fittings. My first is 3/27 and my last is 4/17 if that helps!

Depends on who is doing it. i took mine to Davids for alterations, and all it needed was 4″ taken off the hem and a bustle added, and it wont be ready until March 25th (almost two months away!) i went early so its not so stressful
