I am waiting for my dress also, but from what I understand you are to go for your first proper fitting about 3 months before the date.  Def dont go to early, it would just seem a waste to me you know.  Unless you want to go and prance around the store in your dress, which I fully intend to do when mine arrives!  πŸ™‚

What dress did you get?

@PrincessBrideSuzy: Hey, I’m getting married the day after you and my dress is due in end of this month. The bridal shop told me when it first comes in I have 10 days to go and see it and try it on. Then, after that I believe as HardyPooleParty: said you wait about 3 months before the wedding for the alterations. I don’t know when I’ll choose my veil, i”ll see what the shop say, I’m going to order my shoes though so II have them in time for the alterations.

@PrincessBrideSuzy:  Love the dress!  Looks very elegant with a playful side.  As for the veil, unless you know you want something  for sure, like in my case, I want a birdcage veil, I’d want until you get to try it on there, and pair it up with different ones and see what you like the best.  You can only visualize so much in your head you know.

Also as Prewitt said, if at all possible, have the shoes your going to wear ready.  You will drive the alterations lady buggy otherwise.  Trust me, my friend didnt have hers until the day of, and the sweet Italian alterations lady was going nuts trying to guess what height to hem the dress to, haha.  I have mine already, but I am a bit of a shoe whore and was all over that from the start, lol.

2 months is the standard I’ve heard. Some friends who were losing weight did like 6 weeks before their wedding for the first fitting to avoid need extra fittings.

Holy moly I’ve purchased and returned at least 10 pairs of shoes!  LOL  I finally settled on a pair of Badgley Mischkas that I got for 40% off during an Endless.com sale.
