Ok, I'm desperate, I'm leaving for Vegas in 2 weeks, so I have no time. My dress arrived yesterday, it's gorgeous. I won't say the name, but you can probably figure it out or see my past posts, I just don't want this post to come up in a search for her, it's not her fault!

It just doesn't look right on me, and since I'm desperate and can't wait to post until the weekend when I try it on again with makeup, different shoes and no veil/ different veil, so am posting the horrible cell phone picture.

    Ok, changes:

Hair has to be worn up (probably loose Taylor Swift/ Eva Longoria style).

Shoes- more delicate looking, probably going to be ivory or maybe a baby blue if the ones I get look right, but I'll just have to suffer with a thinner heel. :)

Veil- this one's too poofy with the poofy dress, so I'm getting just a simple elbow length veil or may not wear one at all

Jewelry- I thought I wouldn't wear a necklace, but it looks empty (those are my wedding earrings). So, I'll either get bigger earrings or also wear a strand of pearls.

Or I can just not wear it, and wear what I was going to wear the next day, my BCBG dress with a waltz length veil.

My mom and sister were concerned that this poofy dress made me look like I have no waist, it does and I sorta knew it would do that when I ordered it. It's the look of this style,  it looks fantastic on all the brides who have worn it (albeit strapless) and just doesn't look good on me :( A third option that I probably won't do because there's no way to tell until I do it- cut out a bit of the petticoat underneath to try and minimize the poofiness. But then if it doesn't look good, it's ruined and I can't try to sell it.

    Opinions? Thank you so much!

You need a birdcage veil, your hair off your shoulders and a pair of knock-out shoes. You will be fine, and look stunning. You picked the dress for a reason, and its really cute. Just remember to stay light on the top half of your body, because although the dress is adorable it could look too weighted down with too much jewelry or if you left your hair down. Own it, and you will be so happy! Good luck!

maybe if you took out some layers of tulle and made more flowy it would look right... i think its just a little over done... and maybe thin out the straps a bit... looks like you are hiding behind all that fabric but its a beautiful dress with lots of potential with a good seamstress

I know this isnt what you want to hear but I like the pichure of the other dress better.  I think the dress your wearing is cute; but for some reason it just doesnt look elegant and feminine enough.  It could be it is too puffy like you said.  in the end its you that has to be happy with it, so experiment and have fun doing it :-)

I would go talk to a tailor today and see what they can do. I agree that you should ditch your current veil and go for a strappy heel. I would have a few layers of tulle taken out and possbly shorten the dress by an inch or so. I think if it hits right above your knee, it won't be taking over your petite frame as much. You can totally make it work! You just need a great tailor. Good luck!

I think you need to either go with a birdcage veil like Stormala suggested or lost it completely. Definitely wear your hair up but I'm not sure if you need a necklace. Maybe different earrings, something a little more striking? I don't think it looks too poofy and I can definitely see your waist.

Personally, I love how poofy it is, its SO vintage couture, I LOVE IT!!!!! Don't change!!

I think the idea with this dress is keep everything simple. The dres is so awesome, you don't want anything competing with it. Your choices you listed are def in the right direction, I would go no veil, or do simple flowers or simple headband. You could do colored shoes, but I would go with a much bolder color that makes a statment. Def hair up, and I would go with no necklace, just small earings.

Take a look at this bride; her hair, jewlrey, and shoes are simple, and she looks STUNNING!

Also, instead of a veil you could do a hair flower. It would match your dress really well!

I think the real problem is you need to situate that tulle. Did you steam it yet?? Steaming can really make all the difference.

Honestly, I think its a great dress. So sweet and sophisticated. Just perfect for going to Vegas.

I agree with what everyone else has said... get a smaller, bircage veil, do something with that beautiful red hair of your's, and the shoes need to be lighter, and softer. Try a kitten heel peep toe. I think they have some great ones at shoes.com

I think because there is a lot going on on the dress, you need to simplify your other accessories.

    Seriously, its so cute.

I agree with the other posts above. It might be too late or not even an option but have you considered making the dress strapless? I'm sure a seamstress could do it. It kinda looks like your hiding underneath all that fabric. You look very petite and those straps seem a little wide for you. I would consider not doing a necklace and do some simple earings. Definitly wear your hair back in a low-do. You'll look amazing Don't stress so much!!!

I agree with steaming the tulle and possibly removing some of it.  I think it's a great dress personally and it DOES look great on you.  I also am not loving the veil you're wearing in that pic - I say skip the veil (you already have a lot of tulle) and go for a hair flower.

    Thanks for the fast responses!

Thanks for the veil suggestions everyone, you're right.

@Annie- I know! I love that look! I just don't see it on me! I wanted the poof too! Maybe with my hair up and different shoes and it properly steamed it will look like that. Those are purple shoes, but I think they may look too clunky with the dress and I cannot find purple shoes that look good- arrgh! So, ivory it probably will be.

@fabulouslyengaged- thank you, I'm glad you think I'm on the right track with the shoes! And yes, the tulle is a little out of control, so maybe I will take it to be steamed now and if I have to pay to get it steamed again in Vegas, oh well, but at least I can be confident in the dress. I did want to keep it simple with the accessories because I agree, the dress should be the focus (which how can it not be :) ) so I'll experiment with the jewelry I have.

I really like the idea of your hair up and a nice flower put in on the side.  Definatly Steam, I agree with everyone else that maybe some steam would do the trick.  also, I dont think 2 weeks is enough time for a seamstress/ so id try just down sizing the veil idea/steaming the dress and putting on some simple shoes. :-)  Good Luck and im sure in the end you will look stunning  :-)

Haha, just saw your second post Annie- yes it's the dress. There's no way I could do strapless and I saw a modified version of it on her FB page and it looked great so I ordered it how you see in my picture. I just hope it didn't change the look too much, which it might have, oh well.

I think the problem is that in your picture, you kind of look like you're 12 years old. But I think that dress could definitely work with the right styling. Definitely agree with wearing your hair up, don't go too heavy on the jewelry, and I think a birdcage veil would be great if you decide to have a veil. Definitely pick some fierce shoes (something no 12-yr-old would ever be allowed to wear). And if it were me, I would shorten the tulle to just above the knee.

I actually like the first dress on you.  With some minor style tweaks, you'll look great.  I agree that you should try your hair up and I might also nix the veil.  If you go with anything in your hair, I think maybe a clip or flower would work.  Otherwise, I think you've got so much happening in the dress, the veil detracts from that.  I like the idea of a loose low up-do for your hair.  I think I'd go without a necklace, but maybe a cool pair of statement earrings or even a cool bracelet.  And find some rocking shoes and you're good to go.  I think maybe a platform shoe with a peep toe would give you that retro cool vibe.

I really like the flower in the hair idea too.  What I have been doing is looking at what the other brides that bought dresses from Dolly are wearing with thier dresses to figure out how I will accessorize my dress.  Dolly has tons of pictures of real brides on her FB page. Might help with inspiration.  BTW your dress was my second choice if I couldn't get my first option.

I kind of agree with bmore. You look a little insecure in the picture (which I understand if you cant decide if you like it), which makes the dress look a little awkward on you

You need to sassify yourself up some. It's a sassy dress and you need to adopt that same attitude. Hair up, strappy sandals, shoulders back and you'll be fine. It's a cute dress! Just keep telling yourself "I'm fierce!"

I agree!!  I love it!  No veil or just a fascinator, simple jewelry, lighter or brighter shoes. Once the tulle lays correctly, it will be perfect!

First dress, change neckline to sweetheart (easily done by seamstress) get birdcage veil, and have pop of color with flowers and heels!  A diff neckline might make all the difference.  I adore all the other touches of your dress and think that (plus having your hair either half up and down or all the way up) will totally make this dress perfect for your Vegas nuptials!

I think it's such a cute dress too!  I love these dresses!

LOL, thanks Bethesdabride, I know, it does not help that I'm shy and wear things that make a statement- my attitude must match my clothes! :)

@Miss Short Dress, thanks! I've looked over and over her page and it just kills me! Every bride that has this dress looks absolutely beautiful, so hopefully with my changes and with everyone else's suggestions it will look ok on me.

The fashionable piece of this dress is the play on volume created by the tulle skirt.  In order to pull it off, I don't think you should wear a veil...at all.  You want to keep the eyes moving down to the skirt, not back and forth.  Also I like the modification so that it isn't strapless.  You could pull off a simple strand of pearls for the neckline, but you need to pull your hair up off your neck.  Otherwise it's too busy.  For the shoes, I agree that you should go for something ivory.  I really think that you can pull this off (it looks so pretty on you!) you just need some minor adjustments in accessories!

I agree with the post that it's all about the styling.  You definately have some fun options to play with.  Just experiment with your hair, shoes, add a pop of color, etc.  I think the dress is really cute!  The two are so different....go with what suits your personality best.  What are you colors?  Have you thought about added thin, but bright ribbon in the part where the skirt meets the bodice?  That might be cute!

I love that designer's dresses, but IMO the one you picked is not the most flattering on ANYONE (even the model). Have you called their shop to see if they'd accept a last-minute exchange for another style? (You'd be great in the much simpler "Manhattan.")

Otherwise, I agree it would help to cut out some of the "fluff." On their site, they explain that they make dresses with extra tulle that can easily be snipped out from below the skirt if brides feel too fluffy.

I'd definitely ditch the bubble veil for a birdcage (or no veil) to avoid tulle overload. Otherwise, you're adorable and you already (even before adjustments) pull off that style better than 99.9% of women could.

    Congrats on your wedding. Enjoy!!

try putting your hair back, a different veil(too much poof i think) and really doll yourself up, then put it back on, and pretend like it's your big day, that's the best way to know if you really will like it

I know jadeblue! It was in the back of my head when I ordered it, I should have listened, but I loved the rosettes and the tulle. I really wanted to call up last night and say hey do you have ANYTHING in a size 8 that you could ship out tomorrow? But, I highly doubt they do, and she changed her rules, there's now an 8 week lead time on even the standard dresses. Ugh! Oh well. But thank you so much for the compliments, even if you are just saying them hehe ;)

I like the dress. I agree that you need accesorize it better. No veil just like a really gorgeous hair flower and a beautiful bracelet, necklace and earrings. Your dress would look great strapless like the pic annieaaa posted or with a more fitted bodice. I agree you need a kick-ass pair of shoes. Let us know what you decide to do.

I agree with everyone who says:  hair in elegant updo, sans veil  - or a VERY delicate birdcage or hair flower.  Keep the jewelry simple - imo the necklace won't add much given that you already have a neckline going and then all the floral detail below it.

And then rock some AWESOME shoes, either to match the dress or perhaps that pick up one of the colors in your bouquet.

It's a sweet, sassy dress and I do think you can totally rock it with the right, minimalist accessories!

p.s.  one other thing - watch your posture - shoulders back, chest out a bit and chin up and you'll elongate yourself and show off your waistline more!

    Good luck!

In full disclosure, I am a little partial, because the strapless version was my dress.

I'm with a many of the posters above. You could probably do a decent steam job with your iron at home to tame the tulle down some. Also, this weekend, invite some girlfriends over and do a trial... pulling your hair up, trying on other shoes and doing some makeup. I think you might feel a little better about things. Or if you don't you'll know for sure.

Yeah, I think I might just do the hair flower, I'm hopping on to Etsy to find one.

@AndreaO, how did you accessorize? I'm sure you rocked it!

I'm taking it to be steamed on Friday, I don't trust myself to do it- too nervous, so it'll be worth the $15 I was just quoted.

I think it looks great.  Agree with everyone else, no veil, updo, killer shoes, make up (I suggest a bright lipstick). If possible thin out the straps.

The dress definitely doesn't highlight anyone's waist but not every dress can do everything, you know?  And it doesn't have to, you look sweet and sassy in it and very pretty so no worries.
