So I was all set from the moment I got engaged to order a custom dress from Wai-Ching (http://www.wai-ching.com). I worked with her to figure out what I would want (custom), and she said to order by February (she makes them herself so faster turnaround than most). I didn’t want to deprive myself of the traditional dress-buying experience and my mom and his really wanted to go shopping, so I kept an open mind and went yesterday. I found another dress I really like (Watters Austin), though I’d like to go to a few more places before I would choose it. Now I’m totally confused, and here is why:
1. Wai-Ching fit into my $1500 budget (tailoring and all). The one I like will probably be $3k by the time everything’s said and done. Beyond busting my budget (which is already out of control), I just can’t see spending two months rent on a dress I’d wear once.
2. I realized I love either lace or a big flouncy organza skirt, and a structured bodice, none of which are involved in Wai Ching’s dresses. Also, I found that some things I liked on the hanger didn’t look good on, and I wouldn’t get to try on her dress since she’s in Seattle.
3. I really wanted something unique and somewhat non-traditional, and the dresses I liked were anything but. I wanted my dress to be an expression of me, not just something that I feel really pretty in, if that makes any sense. Though of course I also want to look pretty in it!
4. Our date is 7/28/12, so if I’m going the traditional route I need to make a decision ASAP, and I’m nervous about rushing this and having dress regret.
Any words of advice, my fellow bees?
