I have a problem. I went dress shopping this past weekend and found a casablanca drop waist tulle ballgown that I am in love with. It’s everything I wanted for a wedding dress! Here’s my problem. My FMIL is hosting a second reception in NYC the following month and a saleslady at another salon said tulle is a bad idea if I need to wear my gown again. She says that with bustles breaking and people always stepping on the bride’s gown that I will inevitably have tears in it. I don’t want to wear a torn gown! In shopping around some more, I found a similar drop waist ballgown that is satin and will be more durable. It’s a beautiful gown, and it would be okay, but I didn’t feel like I did in the tulle one. Pklus, I’ll be getting married in July. Satin is going to be HOT!
Wearing another gown is out of the question…unless it’s a $99 one from Davids. I looked there and just couldn’t find something that I would want to wear. What do I do? Do I go with the tulle gown and worry that it’ll be torn by the nights end, or do I go with the satin gown that was pretty, but just didn’t feel right? I have some time to decide, but I’m just looking for some opinions.

Can you post a photo of the two dresses? Maybe we can help you find a happy medium that will work for both? 🙂 Overall though, I think that you should wear what you feel amazing in and don’t worry about it. I’m sure that any tears would only be tiny (say, the bustle gets pulled out) and you can fix them up!
I had a satin dress, and when I changed into flip flops for my reception, the dress still touched the floor a bit when it was bustled. After the wedding, when I took down the bustle, It had a dirty stripe right across the back of the dress where the train was bustled. You could probably get that cleaned though before the next wedding…just giving you a devil’s advocate look at it. 🙂

I’d go with the tulle! Honestly, how wrecked can it get? People would understand if they noticed a few tears, but I doubt anyone would notice minute details like that. Just tell people to stay off the back of your dress!
You don’t sound too crazy about the satin (and if it’s hot, satin shows pit-stains lol)! Get the one you love. 🙂

I wore a tulle dress for my wedding and didn’t have any tears in it, (nor did the bustle break).
Get the tulle dress you love!
