I bought my dress from a bridal conseinment store with the intention of converting it to a lace up back. It currently fits in the hips but since i have an awesome apple shape, it’s about 3 inches too small in the waist. How much smaller can a dress be to successfully be converted to a lace up back? P.S. I will be loosing a bit of weight by the time i go in for alterations (i’d love to lose enough to zip the darn thing up, but i’m not holding my breath!)

I would definitely take it to a good seamstress/tailor and ask. I’m having my gown converted to a corset back because it’s a bit tight in the chest, then I can let the corset out a bit. I’ll post pics when she’s all done.

I’ve heard a corset gives you the flexibility of about 2 dress sizes. So in your case it sound like it should fix the problem =)

Here’s the first fitting. The seamstress still needs to finish a few things up, but at least you get an idea of what it looks like.
