I am getting married in Xpu-ha MX in Oct.  I had a vision of what I wanted-something beachy, flowy, lightweight, chiffon or organza etc.  All the dresses I had on my list fit this vision xcept for 2 casablanca dresses that I absolutely loved (1900/1907).  The salon I was going to had the 1900 but the 1907 was at their sister store.  I knew I could not decide on a dress unless i tried on the 1907 so the owner had it brought to her store for me.  It was my favorite going in and the first one I tried on.  I knew it was the one...nothing else could even compare to it afterwards.  I still wanted to see the other dresses I had on my list before I decided anything.  The 2 WTOO dresses I liked were immediately ruled out on first sight; I still have 3 allure dresses that fit my vision but I havent seen them yet.  I know that brides wear everything from simple to formal on the beach.  The 1907 weighs 10 lbs and I'm concerned about being too hot.  I could go look at the allure's and I'm sure i could go with one of them, but I know even w/o seeing them that I would feel like I would be settling (for the sake of the venue & what I feel is 'appropriate' for the beach) and not getting my dream dress.

So do I sacrifice my perfect dress and go with what I 'feel' is more appropriate or go with the one I love like no other??

Go with the one you love!  Make it work with the feel of your wedding with accessories and hair and make-up.

What do you love about this dress that the others are missing?

Maybe we can help you find another dress to love just as much, but still fit your beach vision!

I say go with what you love. You could even go without a crinoline underneath to cut out some of the fullness so it flows more as you walk. I don't think it would look out of place on the beach. It isn't like a huge ballgown covered in tulle and sparkly beading!! Go for it.

I think it would look appropriate on the beach, it's light and lacy, gorgeous!

I think you should go with the one you love! It's beautiful and if its "the one", then its the one! If nothing else compares, then you won't be completely happy with it.

Although, if you are very concerned, keep trying dresses on that fit your requirements- all that can happen is you find nothing better and you stick with 1907 or you will find one that you like even more.

good luck, let us know what you decide!

My personal view on it is, you only get one shot at this and I think it should your little piece of perfection. When I said something about this at like 5-6 different bridal shops they said they have seen very formal, long trained heavy beaded dresses and upwards on the beaches so that made me look at things a lot different about it.

The dress is gorgeous...but I think you should keep looking.  If I were you I'd be really concerned about being uncomfortable.  An outdoor wedding in Mexico is going to be really hot, even if it is in October.  I run hot, so maybe it's just me, but I'd just be too concerned with being a sweaty mess on my wedding day.

Thanks bees for all of your advice & comments.  I was checking out a destination  wedding board i frequent and my concern about the dress looking out of place on the beach were alleviated bc brides do wear anything from the simplest to the most elaborate dresses on the beach.  Now my issue is with it being too hot.  I am going to check out a few more dresses this weekend and see what I think.

I will let everyone know what happens.  Thanks again girls !!

I think the dress is beautiful and don't have an issue with the formality of it for a beach wedding, but would be concerned about being hot.  A 10lb dress is a lot to be wearing on a hot day in Mexico.  I think you can still go with something more formal, but perhaps a different, lighter material.  I originally bought a beautiful japanese silk satin gown that weighed a ton it seemed.  I kept stressing out about it being too hot for our September wedding and ended up going and purchasing a gown in dupioni silk...the best decision I ever made!  Keep us posted on what you decide, good luck this weekend!

I bought a beachy dress for my wedding... But then ended up going back and buying the one I loved from the start anyways. Just because you are getting married on a beach doesnt mean you should comprimise... Get whatever makes you feel the most beautiful and bridal regardless! :)

I just bought a shorter dress for the after party just in case I get overheated. lol. Good luck!

I'm sorry, bu I'm all about comfort... I'd be dying and sweating and looking like a hot mess! I wouldn't want to look like a hot mess in my photos... so I voted compromise... do some major destination gown research like w/ Maggie Sottero and then see what you think.

I love that dress! I think it will look fine on the beach. And I tried on the 1900 and its beautiful. Either of the Casablanca's will look great on the beach.

Well, after a few days of thinking about it and talking to my consultant again, I may have to give up on this dress for another silhouette...I'm only 4'9" and she thinks this is just too much dress for me, kind of overwhelms my frame, and I would look better in a more fitted, slimmer silhouette.  Which is probably true...Now I have to start my search over bc a slimmer shape is definately not what I have been looking at...Ugh, so frustrating....

I would not settle.  If you love the dress and you think it fits you fine you should go with it.

You're lucky that you found your dream dress.  Alot of us haven't and wish we had that feeling.

Of course, you don't know if the Allure dress could be your dream dress since you haven't seen them or tried them on.

Are there any other stores that would have the Allure dresses?  You can go to other stores to try on dresses and then order it from the salon you've been working with.

good point Jackie...re: the allure dresses, they have some sort of exclusivity something or other and there are only 2 salons in my area that can carry them-1 doesn't have the dresses i'm looking for and the other is a bit farther than I want to drive (unless I have to).  The salon I went to last friday just struck up a deal with allure to carry their couture line in their salon, but they're not sure when they are going to get that part of the line in...

I am going to take pics of the dresses I try on (and the 1907) when I go tomorrow and will seek the hives advice :)

I can't wait to see pictures!

I would definitely take the weight of the dress and how hot it is into consideration.  You want to look fresh and radiant, not sweaty and uncomforatble!
