I’m sure I’m not the only Bride that has stumbled upon this problem so I’m hoping that I could get some good advice or tips.
Like all excited Brides-to-Be, I started searching for a gown ASAP. I ordered my gown in March 2010 so that I would have it in time for my October wedding. A week before I went in to pick up my gorgeous gorgeous gown, I found out and confirmed with my doctor that I am 100% PREGNANT.
My dilemma now is that I don’t know what I’m going to do about my dress. I’ve posted the gown here on WeddingBee in the classified section and Craigslist. I’m not having any luck and I’m starting to stress out. I really need to hide the baby bump.
I’ve found a replacement gown at Davids Bridal but I can’t afford to buy it until I sell my original gown….
At this point I am trying to figure out if I can salvage my original gown.
The gown has a slight trumpet skirt and is ment to be form fitting (see pictures below).
It has an adjustable lace-up back and I’m thinking about trying on a puffy petticoat underneath to try and turn it into a ball gown. I don’t have much experience with bridal gowns so I’m really hoping that this will work.
Does anyone know anything about bridal gowns that could give me some pointers? I’m unsure if the trumpet skirt will look right if I try to puff it out.
The gown is kept at my moms so I can’t just try it on real quick because she’s 2 hours away =(

How far along will you be at the wedding? I think a lot of people don’t show until they are in the second trimester.

1) that dress is gorgeous so I say make it work!
2) How far along are you?
3) If you need to sell it, I would also put it on preownedweddingdresses.com. It’s $25 but I found a potential buyer for mine already and it’s been listed for 4 days.. lol

@MrsSaltWaterTaffy: I’m still waiting on my first ultra sound but I believe I’ll be 17-19 weeks. I’m scared because with my first pregnancy I got big FAST. My belly was already showing when I tried my gown on at the first fitting. My replacement gown is a puffy ball gown and no one would even think that I was pregnant.

If you are early enough in your pregnancy I think the rouching with cover anything if you are even showing that early. I wouldn’t be super concerned unless you are further along

@KLP2010: I know, I LOVE this gown but I don’t want to wear something that I really shouldn’t be wearing. I believe I’m 8 weeks right now. Thanks for the website, I’m going to post right now! =)

I personally don’t think there’s anything wrong w/ rocking a fitted dress when you’re pregnant!! Show off those curves if you can…being pregnant is beautiful…I think if you wear something big & poofy you might just risk looking overweight or something lol. Just try to stay healthy & not gain a ton of excess weight by eating like crap etc. I dunno if this is an option or not but just my opinion. 🙂 Let us know what you decide to do!

@nessy430: Yeah, at first I was like “Who cares!”, but we’re not sure if we want to tell our parents before the wedding. I was afraid that a ball gown would make me look shorter since I’m 4’9″ but I’m a fitness freak so lucky for me I’m pretty toned so although the dress might be poofy, you could still tell that I work out a lot. I’ve been on a strict diet for a long time now so the only time I feel like eating bad is when I’m getting my cravings but even then everything in our fridge is sugar free, fat free.
I’ll keep everyone posted though. I just don’t want to stress out anymore.

I don’t know if you saw the wedding episode of Bethany Getting Married, but she looked amazing 8 MONTHS PREGNANT in her fitted, trumpet gown. I realize that she is also a frek of nature and stayed rediculously tiny, but I think you can make it work with the dress you have now…

That is a beautiful dress — it was one of my top contenders!! I’m sure you can re-sell it if that what you want to do, just be patient and persistent with your ads/posts. 🙂 Good Luck!!

I was at the gym yesterday and was watching reruns of Bethenny Getting Married. She had a considerably huge bump and still wore a mermaid cut to her wedding. She looked beautiful in it and the bump was really cute, totally embracing motherhood in the dress. Because it is a lace-up back, it should be easier for letting it loose when the bump shows. Her dress was actually very similar to yours, lots of ruching. I thought it was adorable =)

I don’t know if you’d be able to do much in that to HIDE a bump but you can def accomodate it with the corset back.
Maybe just have some awesome earrings and a huge gorgeous bouquet…diversion works in sports why not a wedding 🙂

THANKS Bee’S!! You know I think I saw that episode of Bethenny Getting Married! She did look amazing in her gown. Her bump was high and cute. I’m just paranoid because with my first baby I carried low and the bump was hideous….When I was 17 weeks people thought I was having twins and about to POP! LOL

If you still want to sell the dress, also post it on oncewed.com. It’s free to list and I’ve gotten several inquiries from there. You may need to take a little hit on the price and sell it for less than you bought it.
