    HI Bees,

Last night I went for my first fitting. When I bought my dress back in the winter I loved it, now when I tried it on again, I'm not in love with it anymore. I feel like it makes me look bigger even though my mother says other wise and I feel that it's too plain and boring.I lost 35lbs since buying the dress, so it's not like I gained weight  and thats why it makes me look bigger.

I was also planning to get halter straps made as the dress is strapless, so I ordered the fabric from the dress company. When it finally arrived I told the lady at the bridal store that it wasn't the right fabric and she told me that it was and not to worry. So I take it home (3 hour drive) and it sits with my dress for the past few months. Then last night at the fitting was the first time we actually held it up to the dress (bought the dress but then had to go back for the fabric later) and I don't think it matches! I told this to both my mom and the seamstress. Mom didn't say anything but the seamstress said it was fine and seemed stiffer cause it was more startched than the material of the dress. The seamstress didn't really look at it and said it looked fine when she was standing half way across the room. I still had my doubts. We took pics of the proposed alterations and I went home.

When I got home and looked at the pics you can really tell that the fabric is not the same. Its a different thickness, doesn't have the same shine/sheen as the dress material and it has a different texture. I also don't like the way the dress looks on me. My FI thinks the dress looks fine but agrees that the fabric doesn't match. Wearing the dress without straps is not an option. I had a strapless dress for prom and I hated it and vowed that I would never wear strapless again.

I called Mom last night in tears and told her that I didn't like my dress anymore, so I think we might go out looking again this weekend, but my wedding is in January so I know I won't be able to order one in as there isn't enugh time. I also don't really have the money to go out and buy another dress. I'm going to call the seamstress first thing this morning and tell her not to touch the dress and that I want to think about it before proceeding. I'm also going to call the bridal store and see what they can do.

I feel horrible!!! Any other tips/ suggestions???

Also the dress needs a bustle and I didn't like the way the seamstress did it. I think it looks like a straight line right across the lower half of the dress in the back. Any other bustle suggestions??

do you mind posting photos of you wearing the dress so that we can give you our opinions?

since you haven't seen the dress since you ordered it a few months ago, you probably have imagined you wearing the dress thousands of times in your head (which i do every night even though i haven't orderd my dress yet!!), so, when you get to wear it again, it for sure will look a bit different (because you are comparing the image you see with the image you imagined in your head). don't get too stress over this, show us photos of you in the dress, i am sure everyone would think you look beautiful in it :)

just saw your follow up msg after i was done posting my reply! personally, i like double french bustles: http://media.photobucket.com/image/french%20bustle/swingkitten9/wedding/2007_01060047.jpg

but it depends on your dress. if it's a all over lace dress, then double french bustle might not work too well.

hi, thanks for the link of the double french bustle. I'll call the seamstress today and see if I can email her the pic or something. I live over an hour away from her so it's not really convenient to be running back and forth. As for posting pics, I'm really hesitant because I don't want people on here to see it who may be attending our wedding. I might post some later today......

The dress is beautiful.  Maybe think about it for a few days and you'll change your mind?  Maybe it's just buyer's remorse?

your dress is really pretty! a french bustle will definitely work!

if you don't want people to see you wearing your dress, you can blur your face or crop the photo leaving it showing only from the neck down ;)

Amani - this might seem like a silly questions, but what do you mean about "buyer's remorse"?

I'm so stressed out about this, that I spent half the night awake thinking about what to do, not only about the dress but what to do with a hairdresser I booked and don't like...(thats another post).

Could you possibly use a beaded halter strap (the pic is small, but it looks like there is beading on your dress) instead of the fabric that doesn't match? Either way, your dress is beautiful and I am sure you will look gorgeous on your wedding day!

I thought about a beaded strap but I do not have any beading that would match. Plus my wedding is in Jan so there's no time or order anything. Great idea though. I've been trying to get in touch with my seamstress all morning with no luck!!
