I wouldn’t try that, personally.  It may not fit right and alterations could be expensive.  Also, it’s hard to say if the person making the dress is actually a decent seamstress.  I bet I could make a dress and put it on etsy if I wanted to.  LOL!  That thought alone is a bit scary 🙂  Why don’t you try a local boutique?  Many of them have sale dresses.  My dress fit beautifully and it was only $599.  Alterations only cost me $108 to shorten it a bit and add the bustle.  Also, check out places like J.Crew, Macy’s, Nordstroms, etc,.  You may be able to find a prom-style wedding gown for half the price!  Good Luck!

@ShabbyChicBee:  I think it completely depends on the seller. Do you have a specific shop in mind? I ordered a dress from Etsy, but it was from a seller with a substantial amount of sales and positive feedback, so I didn’t feel hesitant at all.

@ShabbyChicBee:  i ordered my dress from etsy and had a good experience! i provided my exact measurements and the dress fits great. Here’s the dress I got..i guess u just have to do some research and find a reputable one and u’ll be ok.
