Where are you ordering from? The designer should be able to tell you the length of the dress. When you get measured (which I'm assuming you'll do before ordering, right? Professional measuring will ensure the best fit) just ask the tailor to measure your length as well, wearing shoes in a similar height to what you want.
Are you planning on any alterations? You could always go longer and get it hemmed if you're really worried.
I've ordered my shoes and will order my dress without going into a tailor.
I'll be 5'8 with heels and the dress is 58.5" hem to hollow. Did anyone have a dress in a similar length with similar height?
Can you not get the dress shipped to where you're working, and get the alterations done locally? I would advise for you to just get a friend to measure your hollow-to-hem, to check against the measurements-- it's very hard to take accurate measurements yourself.
It's a bit complex. Eventually I'll have to get it altered where I currently reside but I have to have it shipped to my mothers in the time being. I'll be visiting her in Feb so if the dress arrives early I can go to a local LA tailor and measure everything. However, by then I can't return or exchange anything. If it arrives later she'll ship it to me to avoid customs fees. Customs kills that's why I'm having it sent to my mother's first. I heard from a friend that she paid about $100 for a few costco bags of almonds sent from the US.
From what I know you can't add length to the dress because of the design so have to buy the EXACT measurement. I guess no matter what I can always adjust the shoes.
Sounds like the best option, to get your momma to send the dress to you once it arrives, and get the tailoring done locally. That way, they can do multiple tweaks over a few fittings, and you won't have to stress about it fitting properly.
How tall are you without heels? Even with heels, 5'8" isn't that tall, so I wouldn't think there would be an issue. It's a gorgeous dress. I know a lot of those dresses that have lace at the hem have a removable lace panel at the bottom, that can be removed and moved up, if you have to cut any length off the bottom at all.
@jhphi I'm 5'5" without heels and 5'8" with my heels.
Thanks for your help. =)
I don't know if this helps, but I'm 5'7" and I wore 2.5 inch heels and I didn't need the extra long length for my Casablanca dress. In fact, the seamstress ended up trimming the tulle at the bottom so it was a teeny bit shorter.

Just needed some help with my dress. I'm actually ordering the Casablanca 1827 dress without ever having tried it on. I'm currently working out of the country up until the very week of the wedding so I can't try it on. So my question to all you bees...
I'll be 5'8" with shoes on. Do I need to add some extra length or am i okay?
Also, has anyone tried this dress on in Champagne? How was it? Not too dark?
