My partner and I will be tying the knot in March when DC legalizes same-sex marriages. We are planning on just having a simple ceremony and celebrating with a big bash a year later so we can have time to put together something really nice.
So I’m thinking about keeping my attire pretty simple but I still want to wear a chic white dress. I’m leaning more towards a short dress since the ceremony will be more casual and then I can find a fancier dress for the next year. I’m open to all suggestions! Also, I’d much rather actually try dresses on than have to shop online but I can’t seem to have any luck finding white dresses in stores other than bridal shops. I want something unique, but preferably under $100. Is this an impossible task? Any advice or opinions?

I saw so many cute ones on the David’s Bridal website! I was just looking with a friend the other day so they must still be available. Congrats to you and to DC, bout darn time!
I’m gonna check out the site again and try to post some of the dresses I liked!

These are so cute to me, especially the second one because its pretty but not really too wedding-y. They’re both short you just can’t tell in the pic for some reason….

If I were you, I’d look into:
a) Used dresses. Ebay, preownedweddingdress.com, bravobride.com, the weddingbee classifieds, craigslist, etc.
b) Bridesmaid dresses in ivory. Think J.Crew, Ann Taylor, Joielle, etc.
I got my dress online from J.Crew. Originally $350, marked down to $150, and I used a coupon code for 30% off all sale items–ended up at $187. Definitely look around for promos like that, too!

I agree with going to David’s. They always have dresses on sale for under $100.

Thanks for the photos, Jennifer! I love the 2nd one too! I think David’s would be a really good starting point for me. I know it will help me figure out what style works best on me.
Has anyone had any luck shopping in vintage stores?
Miss Banana – do you have a pic of your J Crew dress? I’d love to see it!!!!

I was in Anthropologie today and saw some cute white and off-white dresses. They are more on the casual side and have that vintage feel. But some have patterns to them. Check out their website anthropologie.com and then search dresses
Another store is White House Black Market that only sells clothing that is either black or white.
And my last suggestion is Thread
http://www.threaddesigns.com. Same idea as mentioned above- they sell Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses in white fabrics. You can search for a retailer near you and try on their dresses in person before you buy.

I’m having a City Hall wedding, and I ended up ordering a bridesmaid’s dress in ivory. It took a really long time to come in (just as long as if I had ordered a regular bridal gown), but that might be an option for you. I chose a Coren Moore dress.
