Hi Bees (and Happy New Year!),
Long story short, I am in the processes of selling my Pronovias Ledurne which I rushed into buying and regretted immediately. My dream dress has always been the Vera Wang Gemma, however it’s way too expensive so I would have to buy it used. The other dress I tried on and loved is a Martina Liana ballgown….completely opposite from what I always thought I wanted!
We are getting married outdoors on the ocean in August. The reception will be in a white tent. We are using a neutral palette of blush, champagne, ivory with touches of seaside inspiration (silver lanters and white coral…pics included)
Which dress do you bees prefer? (The sample Liana is 3 sizes too big!) Is the Gemma too popular/played out? Would you be comfortable buying/wearing a used wedding dress? Which do you think will go best with my venue and colors? Thank you so much everyone!!!

You have the perfect figure for the Gemma! The Gemma may be popular on wedding websites, but I haven’t seen a ‘real’ bride I know wear that gown, and I think it’s been around for almost 4 years!

@sunflwr816: I like the Gemma on you better

@sunflwr816: The Gemma hands down. You look amazing, it’s perfect on you, made for you infact.

Gemma, without a doubt. It flatters your figure and looks fantastic on you!

It’s really tricky to say when one is 3 sizes off. They both look amazing though — so how did they make you feel?
Also, I have no problem with used products. It saves you buttloads of money, as long as you have a chance to check the product out first.

Since the Liana is three sizes too big, the Gemma looks much better on you. Still, I absolutely love the Liana. The skirt in the second photo is to die for!

The Gemma fits you like a glove. I feel like the ballgown is overwhelming and doesn’t show off your figure.

@sunflwr816: I voted the mermaid because you are getting married in the summer months. I realize all wedding dresses are hot but it just looks like it would be less heavy. Either dress you can’t go wrong with. They are both gorgeous!

The gemma wins! Hands down.
Omgoodness you look sooo good in that dress. I think it goes very well with your decor, much better then the ball gown actually. Also, I would have no problem wearing a used dress and I don;t think it is over played.
I say go for your dream dress. You own it!

Both are beautiful but I think the Vera Wang is more appropriate for an outdoor ceremony. Your figure looks amazing in it!! And there’s nothing wrong with preowned if the quality hasn’t been affected. Congrats on finding two amazing dresses!!

@winstonchurchill It’s so hard to say since I had been dreaming about Gemma for so long and it was the first gown I tried on. I don’t know if I loved it so much because I had built it up, you know? Plus, finding out it was $6500 before alterations kind of let the wind out of my sails, so to speak.
The problem with buying it preowned is that I have only been able to find one seller willing to compromise price with me, the dress does has damage and will need alterations, and she’s in Chicago and I am in Boston!
Meanwhile, the Liana is easily within price range, is available at a local boutique (and they’re having a trunk sale 1/4-5 for 10% off) AND my mom is crazy about it and prefers it to the Gemma.
It’s a hard choice….

I think the waist on the ballgown falls on a really bad spot for you. I feel like the bodice should be 2-3″ longer?
But the Gemma looks INCREDIBLE on you!

Love love love the Gemma but I think anything in that shape would look great on you. Very flattering. Have you consider a lower price dress that is similar? How about Maggie Sottero Primrose? Divina?

@sunflwr816: The ballgown is sweet, but mermaid is definitely awesome with your body type. Maybe you could just find a less expensive mermaid. I don’t think it’s necessarily the Gemma that makes you look so good, it’s the dress shape.
