If you think you might lose any more weight I would wait until as late as you can. I followed the "guidelines" and had my first fitting about six weeks early and ended up losing more weight to the point that they ultimately had to take in another inch on the sides between the second and third fittings. It was okay except that I had to pay more and it completely stressed me out that they had to change it so much so close to the wedding.
I suspect it depends on your seamstress and how much work you anticipate needing. I was pleasantly surprised when I was told to call for an appointment 4 weeks out. More time for me to lose weight and find the perfect shoes!
@Kittyachi: My wedding is a week before yours and I'm going in for my fitting on Tuesday. My dress really doesn't need too many alterations though, and I doubt I'll lose much weight before the wedding. I just need the top and arse areas taken in a tiny bit and a bustle. I'm hoping all I'll need is one round of alterations!
Well I called and the first appointment I could get was July 17th so that works for me! I asked if it was cutting it close and they said no that is totally fine. That gives me a decent chunk of time to drop these pesky last 10. Why are the last 10 lbs the hardest to get rid of?

Just got an email that my dress is in and I should call to schedule a first fitting. Wedding August 21st - how long can I wait? Need to lose a few more lbs.
