Oh this can absolutely be altered! Deep breaths!
Most of the time, they will alter it from your waist rather than at the top so that they can keep the neckline intact. A friend of mine is having the opposite problem right now. Her torso is longer than the average and her dress is sliding down too much. So they're taking it apart at the waist to add fabric to make it longer for her.
If for some reason, they can't take fabric at the waist, they can still do it at the top! They take out the bones to do this...so no worries! A seamstress can do wonders!

So I finally got my dress in and tried it on the weekend...it was at my mom's house. I HATE the top...I put it on and immediately started crying....I never cry and certainly not over a dress. Anyway, the problem seems to be that I am too short waisted and the top crushes up under my arms and doesn't lay right at all. It has boning and stuff in it. Is that something they can alter...can they just cut the top down or something. It is soooo uncomfortable and makes me look all crunched at the top, much less my underarms where sore from the few miutes I had it on. Do you think it can be altered or should I look for another dress.
