My dress just arrived and I went to try it on-it is a Maggie Sottero with a corset. When I tried on the sample it was a size 16 so I did not get a good feel for exactly how the corset would feel. Now in my size 8 I hate it-the fit is fine size wise and the back was not laced too tight. Its just that the corset is so still I feel like Im wearing plexiglass around my upper half. It was so uncomfortable and I couldnt even bend over. The girl at the shop said it will soften up after getting steamed but I cant believe it will change that much. After trying it on I went out to my car and cried. Im getting married in 6 weeks and have a dress now that is irritating-I certainly dont feel special or beautiful in it. I have no idea what to do…

My sister-in-law gave me the best advice: wedding gowns are like “dryer jeans.” You know when you take your jeans out of the dryer and they’re tight and uncomfortable but they’re fine in an hour? That’s a wedding dress. Once you wear it more for fittings it’s going to feel a lot more comfortable. I had a similar freak-out about my wedding dress, and everything turned out fine.

girl – I’m gonna let you in on a secret. All wedding dresses are uncomfortable (well, save for the whispy cotton dresses). Seriously. They all are tight, have boning, blah blah blah. The difference between your new dress and a sample is remarkable, and it will always feel tight and stiff (I agree with PP’s “dryer jeans” comparison).
I guess that’s not the best news, but at least you know it’s not just you!

@bellasmom82004: I am actually looking forward to the stiffness and “plexi-glass” feeling of my size 8 Maggie, it sucks everything in and smooths it all out! 🙂 My exercise routine that I swore I would be religiously sticking to the day I got engaged is not exactly going the way I planned so I am counting on the dress to make me look like I have been at the gym everyday, lol. I am sure you will adjust to the feel of the dress! 🙂

Exactly ! I ssecond everything the PP’s said! Sample dresses are stretched out, ill fitting and are an unrealistic feel to what a new dress will be like. My dress ended up being huge partly due to store suggesting a riduculously larger size and me loosing 15 lbs. after my first fitting , once dreas was taken in, I could barely breathe! sitting down was super uncomfortable but you get used to it ! after 3 hours in my dress it actually loosened up quite a bit do you definitely want it snug to start!

I don’t mean to sound contrite or rude at all, but that is what corsets are supposed to do. They are supposed to hold everything in and keep stuff from bouncing around. No corset in the history of man has ever been comfortable. You do eventually get used to the feeling, but it is somewhat unpleasant to start with.
