@livcurious:  I don’t know squat about alterations–but I wanted to tell you I think you look great in that dress! It’s beautiful! 🙂

@livcurious:  Maggie dresses come in standard, short, and long lengths!

So I’d just order the short length (which is made for someone 5’5″ in heels). They don’t just shorten the bottom, they make the length of all the measurements shorter!

  • Can the dress be shortened from the middle so the flare isn’t too low on me?

Typically with this type of silhouette- no, I don’t think so. But if you work with someone who really knows what they’re doing and you’re willing to pay a good bit you’re lucky that your dress has so much rouching. I would think the only way to decrease from length in the middle would be to leave a seam and cover it with the rouching.

  • Is it too much dress for my short, curvy figure?

Personally I think so. The last dress looked really good on you though!

  • Is the belt overpowering my waist/short torso?

Yep.

  • Is an A-line or Fit & Flare better for short ladies?

On you I think the fit and flare leaves you looking bit unbalanced. I would try a trumpet style if you really like the way it hugs your curves, otherwise the A-line really is quite flattering.

I can’t comment authoritatively on alterations, so I will leave that to others. However, I wanted to say that I much prefer the silhouette of the Benita on you.  It makes your waist look so tiny and it is extremely flattering on your figure!

I actually like the first dress the least. I think the third one is beautiful on you! The second one also looked very nice if you are dead set on that silhouette for your figure.

I agree with the PP… I think the 3rd dress is absolutely stunning. It’s shorter in the torso than the 1st, which will help resolve your query about shortining the dress in the middle. My mum was a dress maker and she said it would be highly unlikely it could be altered there as there don’t appear to be any seams running across your waist.

I think you could get the blingy belt from #1 and attach it to #3 and have it look beautiful on your gorgeous figure.

Girl- look how tiny your waist is in #3!!

@livcurious:  I think the second dress looks like it was made for you. If they could remove the beading, would that dress be an option? I like the third one as well. The third dress says “bombshell”.

As a side note, that dog in the first pic is adorable. It just has this look on his face like “how did I get here”? It must be a boy dog, LOL.

@livcurious:

I LOVE The last dress on you!! I think the shape is a bit better, but only in comparing them side-by-side… the second dress looks amazing on you too, so I don’t think the shape is a problem at all.. just whichever you prefer. 🙂

However, I’m not a huge fan of Adorae… I really don’t like the belt on Adorae on you. It cuts you off in an awkward spot… And I don’t know if it’s the WIDTH of the belt, or the location of the belt (meaning, even if you went with a narrower belt, it still might look odd?)

I went with a Maggie A-line dress (I’m a size 14-16), and I thought it was the best silhouette for my super pear-like shape… but you’re a lot more proportional than me, so you can pull off the mermaid! 🙂

As for your height… I’m 5′ tall, and Maggie comes in a petite/short length… it shortens the whole dress proportionally… so things like mermaids won’t wind up looking awkward as if you just chopped off the bottom chunk. So you’ll be fine going with Maggie! 😀
