Hi all, I’d like some advice about a dress that I found. I think it’s THE dress, but I’m a fashion incompetant and I think it’s outdated. It’s an Oleg Cassini CT291, which was discontinued, but I found a seller with a used one for a nice price. My concern is that it has a HUGE skirt and train, which I know flatters my figure, but really isn’t at all in style. Will I look silly parading around in a ballgown when all the pics I see in the magazines are of sleek figure hugging numbers? I’d look indecent in a mermaid with my curves. Same with an A Line. Help!

@HaumeasHeart: No one will care if it is outdated. If it looks good on you and makes you feel good in it, that is all that matters 🙂

I made this post to see what the bees are actually wearing. Hopefully it will help you to know quite a few people are wearing ballgowns, and you won’t look outdated at all.

Thank you! I especially like that link Eckle :). I think I just need to stop watching Say Yes to the Dress. Every bride on there wrinkles her nose at ballgowns, then calls them old or makes a cupcake joke.

I wore a ballgown.. big, flouncy, tulle, princess ball gown.. which if you knew me would shock you lol. The point being, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE (unless your a rock star or something) is going to say something like “OMG DID YOU SEE HER DRESS?? IT IS SO 2012!!”
Wear what makes you feel beautiful!! Please, please!! Because I promise you, if you put on a dress that you don’t like for fashions sake, you are going to be miserable, and it will show to your husband, guests, and in all of your pictures.
ETA: I also fail horribly at fashion! So I get the nerves part lol

Choose what looks good on your body type and you’ll look great. Worrying too much about keeping up with fashion will lead you down the wrong path.
Plus, ballgown wedding dresses are timeless!

I’ll go against the grain and say that it’s not the ballgown aspect, but the pickups that make it dated.

If you think it’s THE dress, and you love it, buy and wear it. At some point, in the not too distant future, all of the dresses we wear to our weddings will look dated.

DomesticDiva, I never thought of it that way, but you’re right! Lol I’m being silly.

@DomesticDiva: Apparently I failed to say this exact thing. If YOU love it, get it and wear it.
