Try to look for sample sales in your area. Also, check craigslist and ebay fairly regularly. I’ve heard so many horror stories about the various china companies that I’d not want to go that way.  Have you posted here in the classifieds to see if anybody has one to sell? You could even post a wanted ad on craigslist. Having Davids as a last resort back-up may not be a bad idea, but even alterations can take a while.

Good luck!

I looked at a pic of your dress and it’s based off of a casablanca 1831 but without the stones.  You might be able to find the casablanca available because it is from a few seasons ago. 🙂

Have you checked out Nicole Miller? prices are pretty reasonable, and you can find online also. I find that their dresses run the same way regular dresses would, as far as sizing is concerned for ordering online.

I would go the Davids Bridal route before I ordered something from China.  I would rather sacrifice the style a little bit but be able to see and feel the dress.  At this point there would be too many unknowns for me to feel comfortable ordering from China.  What if you wait for the dress to come and its icky or it doesn’t come at all?

Anyways, best wishes to you, that is no fun!

Also, when you look at Craigslist and other places, don’t be afraid to email people and just give them your best offer.  Usually people price up a bit on those sites knowing they will have to bargain and come down some in the price.

Sorry you’re discouraged! Have you considered a Venus Bridals gown? Their style VN6631 has similarities to the Autumn Royale and Casablanca dresses you like, but is much less expensive (should be about $300 new). I’m wearing a Venus dress and am very happy with the quality.

Good luck! I hope it works out well for you. -JB

I would imagine adding a train would be pretty simple. It could be like an overlay and attach under the side-swept part by the bow. Then you could take it off for the reception!

Their site has a store locator: http://www.venusbridal.com/store_locator.php

check to see if there’s a place near you to see their dresses and try them on.

Mine (vn6603) is available with no train or a sweep train. Check to see if this dress has the same option. I don’t know how tall you are, but the dress is made for someone about 5’8″, I believe, so you might be able to make a little train in back when having it shortened.

Good luck!
