I am IN LOVEEEEEE with the Jim Hjelm 8801 dress but can't afford the hefty price tag. Does anyone know of other brands that offer similar designs?

There's people who willl make dresses (ladies in China) for about $300.  Post a desire in the "classifieds" to get more information.

Lovely dress, I can see why you're a fan! :-)

I would be cautious about going the China route to reproduce it, though.  Most of the people I've talked to said the Chinese dress shops do a good job on taffeta or satin, but that the lace they use is very poor quality and that lace dresses tend to not turn out well.

Can I ask what your budget is?  La Sposa does some really nice lace dresses for around the $1k price mark, which is still expensive but less than Jim Hjelm.  I also thought of this Alfred Angelo for some reason: http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/ProductDisplay.aspx?productID=260f8e10-c59b-45de-a968-c48f784fd8d6&categoryID=32e5a88c-cbf1-498f-afcf-dbfca138c5d3&pg=0

I bought my dress off preownedweddingdresses.com. It was a wonderful experience - the dress is in perfect condition and I love it. Also look on Oncewed or Bravo Brida.

My maid of honor had her heart set on a dress that was way out of her budget so she found one similar @ David's Bridal and had her seamstress tweak it to make it a sweetheart neckling, a ribbon sash and added swarovski crystals to the sash - it's very very close to the original.

Oh, I agree - think about the china shops. I've read quite a few posts about brides with bad experiences.

I know some people are opposed to David's Bridal, but they have a couple similar ones if you're interested.

This one would need a sash added, which is pretty simple to do:  http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49995498&currentIdx=20&subCategory=-49999486|-49995498&catentryId=6110580&sort=

I tried this one on and it was very pretty, but no train:  http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49995498&currentIdx=47&subCategory=-49999486|-49995498&catentryId=6096946&sort=

It's a beautiful dress, but a pretty simply design.  I'm sure you'll find a similar one in your price range.  Good luck!

can we get a ball park on your budget? it looks similar to the dress i ended up with just different color (google marisa 700 and you get two sites for once wed and preowned gowns) both are not TOO expensive... and also depends on your size....

I second the WToo dress posted above by nevjcu.  I almost bought that dress...it's beautiful and very reasonably priced.  I think it was about $850 in the bridal salon.  If you like that Jim Hjelm dress I think you would love the WToo Natalia.

    I had a similar situation, I can't afford my tastes :)

Check out Mori Lee, the dresses are really rasonably priced and most of them are a nice quality...they have a couple of alencon lace dresses.  I noted with some more affordable companies, their version of lace was primarily netting with some applique, which is fine if that is what you want! :)

    This is an example:

    good luck!! :D
