monnie845 :  oops dont know what happened to my above post

It doesn’t look like a prom dress. Your MIL is just trying to make you second guess your decision because you didn’t do what she told you to do. It honestly looks great, and the fact that you love it is super important!  Try not to let her get to you.

Did she end up putting her $200 towards this dress?

I think it looks absolutely gorgeous on you! And nothing like a prom dress…I feel like that was the only “negative” she could come up with quickly. My guess is that she was really hoping you would find a dress under $200 so she wouldn’t have to contribute the entire thing like she promised. I wouldn’t worry about it for a second more!

Hi Bee!  The dress most certainly does NOT look like a prom dress.  It’s beautiful!  Look at that lovely bodice detail, and the flow of it, you look so pretty!

Gorgeous dress, so totally bridal. Sorry you are having to deal with the negativity from your MIL, but you can’t please everyone.  You look so happy wearing that dress and the fact that you love it is the most important thing.

I am finding that my own mother has had skewed ideas of what various things cost. Sometimes she’s high, sometimes she’s low, and she’s usually certain that she’s accurate, either because someone she knows told her that she paid $X, or because she recalls paying $Y for a catered family event some years ago. It’s not out of malice or stubbornness, but her information is out of date. I wonder if that same misunderstanding is coloring your FMIL’s perception of what dresses cost these days.

Regardless, congratulations on the purchase of your definitely-not-a-prom-dress! Very pretty pick! I’m partial to contrasting fabric on the bodice and skirt myself. 🙂 Wear it in good health and do your best impression of a duck the next time your FMIL says something unhelpful… just let it roll on off.

monnie845 :  honey you look great in your dress! Your MIL is wrong, and she doesn’t get that dresses for a lot of us can’t be ordered off of the Internet for cheap. They have to be tried on!

Im glad she wants to help out with the cost, it seems like she cares and just applied her own values to your situation.

You’re a sweet girl and you look great in your very bridal dress:-) welcome to the bee! 🐝🐝🐝
