I like the ivory and champagne much better. The second really isn't my taste.
I think the ivory and champagne one gives you a great shape! :)
To me, the second one is too busy, so you can't trust my opnion of how it looks on you. I simply don't like that dress. The first dress is very pretty. But personally I think it hits you a little too low. I would think about bringing up the straps a bit. The x shape in the middle is flattering, but only if it's hitting at the waist.
OH! And a really good bustier, like this one, will make ALL the difference!
This is the one I'm weatring under my dress.
Has the dress been altered yet in the first picture? I think it could look really flattering, but the way it's hanging right now doesn't do the dress (or you) justice.
I'm personally not a fan of the second dress.
The first one, definitely. The second one looks very old-fashioned, like it's from the early 1990's. Additionally, my experience of thick straps is that they make things look very matronly, which is not a good look for a bride ;)
btw, you have very pretty hair, are you wearing it down for your big day?
Thanks for the quick and honest feedback. I really appriciate the frank opinions on these boards...keep it coming.
The first dress is currently at the seamstress and as PPs mentioned, she's pulling up the straps and adding a bustle. There was a suggestion of the woman at the briadal shop to remove the straps all together but I decided to keep them on because they add a bit of security and removing them means altering the top further to remove the points. This is the dress I'm planning to wear I think the other one is just the result of my mental image of a big white dress.
Thoughts on hair styles? I am leaning to a curly side do, kind of like I sloppily did in the photo but have not really seen any inspiration other than Taylor Swift.
@whiterosered thanks, I'm considering wearing my hair kind of down but am still worried about its unpredictability.
I agree that the second one looks rather matronly. The first one is much better, but as others have said it might need a few alterations.
I'm not crazy about the ivory and champagne, but please pick it over the other (style way too dated)! I'd suggest considering making the i & c dress strapless and more of a fit and flare. I can't tell if it is an a-line or if it is trying to be a fit and flare. Get some crioline under there! If not strapless, then maybe some beading/crystals on the spagetti straps for a little something...
All styles will look dated eventually, so if you love the white one, go with it.
any insight to what you don't like about the first dress (ivory)? I guess I'm suprised by the high percentage of don't like either in the poll because everyone I showed that picture too in life had positive feedback. Can someone clue me into what you don't like, maybe my friends didn't want to rain on my parade.
I definitely like the ivory/champagne one on you. I like the dress better personally, and I also think its more flattering on you. You'll be gorgeous! The side do a la Taylor Swift will be lovely.
I always feel bad when brides ask why I dont like something they do, it makes me feel like I'm raining on their dreams :-(
I'll be honest, I'm really not digging the straps. It's making the dress look like one of those tank tops that have the bra built in. Maybe if you could find a bolero of some sort?
Penny, thanks for the critique, I would not have asked if I didn't want honesty. The dress was never my top priority, I like dresses but I mostly want to feel like the dress is flattering and not wearing me (i feel like the white one was a bit overwhelming) so you are not busting my dreams. ;)
As far as the straps, I could take them or leave them but I think they are a bit functional which is why I left them. I tried to find a bolero but the dress is so busy with lace and subtle beads and the colors it never panned out.
The first one is gorgeous, the second one tottally not my taste (and it makes you look bigger...)
I am not a huge fan of either on you, myself. But the only opinion that matters is yours.
That said, I feel as though neither flatters your figure the way they could. I agree with Penny that about the straps on the first one. The sash gives you great definition on your waist, but I think the fit/fabric looks odd on the bottom ... not full, not fitted and kind of stiff. It could be an entirely different story, post-alterations. I agree with Mandalee that a fit and flare bottom might be more flattering.
I also agree that the second one looks dated and makes you look bigger, which you clearly are not.
Slicey19, I was indecisive and did dress polls too. What I know is that if you give people the third choice (don't like either), many people will pick that. Why? It's simply only because everyone has different tastes. As someone who often helps her friends makeover their outfits and have received much positive feedback, I will say that most people try to pick something they like and put that on someone else. But a good fashion consultant will pick something nice based on your personality and taste, not theirs. Most people are just voicing their personal styles on your poll when they pick choice 3.
I think you look great in the first dress, even with the straps. You can always find matching beads or a feather flower, etc to dress it up, if it concerns you.

My turn, I've posted two dresses. One is white with a super long train and a lot of beading. The other is ivory with champagne at the waist, all lace and a little bit of silver beading and has a modest train. I already bought both dresses but now I need to decide which to wear for my church ceremony. The reception is in a clubhouse on the beach but I have a completely different dress for that so it is not an issue. I got feedback from friends and family and am pretty sure I made a decision but I am having second thoughts and reconsidering my first dress now so I'd love to have some neutral opinions which is why I'm not telling you which is first or second and which I prefer. Thanks for the feedback!
Sorry for the poor photo quality, my mom is not good with my camera.
