there is another bride on WB that got a gradutation dress in ivory for her wedding dress... will see if i can find the thread
found the thread.... http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/dress-is-in-a-month-early
that is a gorgeous dress , but it looks more bridal than my choices i think
one of my co-workers went to Harts (our local store for dressy dresses like proms, BM's and grads) and ordered a dress in white with no train - no one battered an eyelid so i suspect it happens alot
she had her wedding at a hunter valley winery with about 50 people and looked beautiful, kinda like dress #2 but with more of a corset look
im torn between dress 2 and 4... they are my favs
I like the 2nd and 3rd pics if they were in white or ivory. I love ruching as it is so figure flattering and elegant.
i am thinking dress number 2 but i also love dress 3 hahaha oh me oh my.i will see what the final tally is and use that to decide
Oh lovehim, I feel your pain. As a Canadian bride I've noticed the prices are majorly (like everything else in Canada compared to the US) inflated! The first dress I tried on was $1800 CDN, but I found the same one at a store in the US for less than $900 USD. Seriously... if you can, I say check out bridal salons in Upstate NY. I know Buffalo has a lot of outlets- do they have any bridal outlets?
My vote is for 2 or 3 though!
#2!!!! I also like #3, but there seems to be a seam line that goes across the thigh? It might cut off the look (not as elongating as #2)?
well each of these dresses is $220 and under :p so i am very happy about that and even willing to get it now and watch it over the months (will be a good way for me to maintain my body (which isnt hard since i dont over eat or anything and i do love working out -sorta )
they do have outlets but they are off the rack only.
@<span style="font-size: x-small; color: #81a026;">carri38707 - yes i believe the ruching stops mid thigh .I am 5ft3 so a bit of elongating would be awesome hahah since I plan to wear flats .SO is only 5ft 8
I love the first and last dresses. However, you need to try all of them on in addition to other styles because you can't determine what they look like on you by picking out a model's picture.
@ember78- i know what this style looks like on me as opposed to full skirted gown or aline dresses. It is the most flattering and is more my style , I prefer to not do some dramatic change in my dress style on my wedding day
i find being shorter the full skirted wedding gown make me seem even shorter and i wont be wearing heels :S plus i have the body for a fitted gown so why not,I have always known I would pick a dress in this specific style based on what I have tried on
I think they all pretty much look the same,so any would work. I guess it just comes down to which you find more flattering on you.
BTW...there's a seller on Ebay that carries NWT Dessy & After Six dresses and gowns,REALLY cheap! I got the BM's dresses from them for just $30.!! I'll send you the link if interested in checking them out.
I think that this is becoming more popular these days, so I think that the bridal salon would be able to handle it. I know that when I went in the first time, I had them pull two or three bridesmaid dresses for that purpose and the lady didn't even raise an eyebrow.
all of them look bridal to me, if in ivory. i just voted for the purple ava on the poll because i like the unconventional neckline.

Here's the link to the Ebay store. They even have wedding gowns for as low as $50.!!
Be sure and check the clearance dresses too. GREAT deals on this site!
I voted for #3 (the purple dress). I like the neckline the best and the cut below the hip can be flattering. Try all of them on and only then will you know which one is the winner.
I love the second one. I don't think it's weird to get a bridesmaid's dress- I think it's more common than you think.. :)
all gorgeous.. and in ivory - there's really no difference unless you want one with crinoline, etc.
I love the purple one in an ivory! I don't think the bridal salon will think much of it, either!
Not awkward at all! I think a lot of people are being careful about their finances now. I'm sure the stores see it all the time! I LOVE the purple one, but what's most important is which one you like best.
i love the first 3 - they are beautiful! my favorite would be #2 i think. either way, they will all look stunning & very bridal.
aww well thank you guys i think i am going with 2 and 3 so far will keep you posted after i get my lazy butt over to the store
I agree with #2 and #3. In the right color they will be very bridal. Wish I had explored that option more!
I think those are all gorgeous dresses, perfect for a wedding on ivory color, I say it's perfectly fine, go for it!
and keep us posted, I really want to see which one you pick up
i like the third one the best. that's my first choice, followed by the second one.
i will be going next weekend to try and see what i find.apparently he doesnt want tow ait until 2011 and we are gonna decide on a date after we see how long it takes us to get the dress the suit the rings , we already know the venue just have to chose a date and book it .so if i find my dress next week .i am getting it and then the formal engagement announcement will be in two months and then who knows maybe wedding date can be may 2010 .ooooooooooooo
All of these dresses are beautiful and will be perfectly bridal on you! The first three are my faves, but all fairly similar. I guess whichever one fits you the best is the winner! The first one has that nice flower accent that could match a flower accent in your hair. Second and third are both very classic and lovely but the fitted line may fall differently on each of them.
Best of luck! You'll be gorgeous!

So i knew even before we talked about getting married that i would want a fitted dress , i keep finding them but at $1200 and that is scaring me , so i decided to look at evening gowns from the bridal store that I can order in ivory at less than half the price .
my question is would it be awkward if they knew i was the bride and i wanted to order one of these dresses as my bridal gown in ivory?
also which dress do you prefer?
p.s. the wedding will be 70-80 guests indoors fall small chapel then coctail reception
