- Wedding: February 2011
I promised I’d update about dress shopping… so here goes (semi long… skip to the bottom for pics!!)
My mom and I headed out for the first time yesterday and we went to three shops.
David’s bridal- okay… but nothing I liked seemed to have an inner structure that was as flattering on me.
Wendy’s bridal- they pissed me off*
Alan Ray bridal- really nice and found a really pretty dress… but they had NO sizes that fit me (i’m street size 16) and the one I had on was so ill-fitting and tiny that it looked horrible on me. Plus they told me that Alfred Sung takes 6-9 months to ship and I’d have to pay an extra $100 to rush it to get it by January. Pass.
About Wendy’s… first thing I was put off because they were late with my appointment and were totally unapologetic about it… but once we got rolling my consultant was actually really nice (although I take this with a grain of salt bc she is, after all, working on commission). I found a dress my mom LOVED. Like tears… loved. I loved the dress too but I just wasn’t sure it was me. It had some bling on the skirt and a beaded train and that was a bit too much for me. Plus, this place wouldn’t let you take pictures which was pissing me off. So I ask the consultant: who makes this dress? She tells me “well I am not allowed to tell you that until after you’ve purchased it, but I can assure you that it is a VERY big designer, one of the top in the country and you’ll be very pleased. this is not a no name dress.” Hm.. ok. Enter the ‘bee… turns out? It was their “private collection” i.e. STORE BRAND. There are only 2 of these stores and they are in Ohio. National brand my ass. So then I was just PISSED because she lied to me. I didn’t care at all about buying “name brand” but I do like to know what I’m paying for.
So this morning my mom and I decided to try a different shop. I wanted to make sure that there wasn’t something I loved as much from a place I actually liked.
Enter the wedding plantation. Looked like nothing, super old building, pretty small. And I found it!! The one!!! It had everything I wanted. Its a tissue taffeta, rousched, corset back, super flattering (even 2 sizes too small!), just a little bling up top and one really nice accent bling thingy off to the one side (see below). I loved the skirt, I loved the neckline. love love love. Plus it was cheaper than the other dress AND it’d be in by September. Game, set, credit card. <3
SO glad I found a dress i love sooo much that I can’t stop staring at the pics (we were ALLOWED to take all the pics we wanted what a concept haha). And my mom loves it more too!! Lots of pics below. Keep in mind this was 2 sizes too small so the fit is a bit wonky, i’m hot and sweaty, etc etc etc. But you get the idea. 🙂
