I am suffering from dress regret and honestly don’t know what to do about it. I fear I won’t find “the dress” no matter what I do, but want to look like a princess on my wedding day…and would love any advice I can get!
After we got engaged, I went to a few local stores but didn’t find “the one” dress–every store I went to had 1-2 dresses I “loved” but none that made me start crying in glee. A few times, the dress I “loved” was an Alfred Angelo, so I figured it was fate and “chose” AA 801. As FI and I are paying for the wedding ourselves and the dress was $1400, I decided to take the plunge and get it made in China (which actually turned out wonderfully, but that isn’t what this is about at all). In case anyone is wondering why I ordered it from China vs purchasing a pre-owned dress, I am 6″ tall. Without shoes. As such, unless a dress is made w/extra length, it is too short for me. So, 99% of pre-owned dresses and all sample sale dresses are out of the picture.
Anyway, I ordered the dress for $379 from Landy Bridal and almost immediately started having regrets. I went back to the AA store and tried the dress on again and decided that I wasn’t as crazy about it as I should be. I was actually hoping that the dress would arrive looking like crap so I would have an excuse to buy a new one, but alas, it arrived looking just like it should (albeit much too big in the chest, which never happens as I am a 36DD).
So now my wedding is 4 1/2 months away, I have a perfectly good dress that just needs some alterations, yet I don’t feel super confident about the dress. I now think that since I am curvy I should get a dress that emphasizes my curves–I have actually been back to a store to re-try on a mermaid cut dress I really liked. My FI wants me to do what makes me happy–of course he would prefer if I didnt spend more money on another dress but it won’t break us if I do.
So, has anyone else been in this situation? What happened? And, if I *do* decide to get another dress, can I even get it made in time?

Wow, you just explained the entire story that happened to me in the past two weeks and my wedding is a week ahead of yours. o.o
I’ve decided to go dress shopping again. I do love my dress, but I know it’s not the one. My FI and I have finally decided to go for the wedding we want (without putting anything on credit) and enjoy it without worrying about who will say what.
I totally think that the dress shops can make it in time, but you will have to pay a rush delivery fee. You deserve to wear THE dress on your day. Go find it! 🙂

I bought a dress with the FH that I like, but didn’t love. In the end, the FH just wanted me to be happy. Even though I had to scrimp and save, the FH told me to buy whatever dress made me happy since I only get to do this once. Now I have the dress of my dreams, and all is good in the world.
Personally, I think that you should be happy and comfortable in what you will be wearing on your wedding day. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to really do it right.
Do you have a picture of the dress you have? I would love to see you in it.

Maybe it would be best if you’re going to make sure all the alteration will done with what and when you expect. Try to vist the shop evry two days to check on your gown. 🙂

I am attempting to attach a photo I took of myself in the dress when it arrived last week (with my face cropped out as I look awful with no makeup, unwashed hair, etc.). I’m not wearing any “supportive undergarments” so clearly it will look better when smoothed out–and when it isnt freakishly large on the top. The bottom is wrinkled in the pic from being packed into a package the size of a basketball.

It is really pretty, I can see why you picked it, the detail lace is amazing. It is a really nice dress, but if it is not “the” dress I still think you should have whatever makes you feel the best. I think that you can really rock a mermaid if that is what you want.
