So, I always wanted a ballgown with lace sleeves. Our venue is a lot more casual than that, )and every time I tried on a ballgown, nothing was just right. Either too much bling…or too plain…or too much skirt…or a drop waist…
I tried on probably 80+ dresses and I didn’t even like the way any of them looked on me.
Then, I went outide the box and tried this one dress on. It was a little out of my price range, so I took 3 weeks or so to think about it.
I felt like a bride…I felt thin…I thought it really flattered my figure….till I saw pictures of me in it. After I purchased it. (The salon didn’t allow pictures until after a deposit)
The pictures make it look like this is the least flattering dress in the world for my figure…I feel like the proportions are super weird and it makes my small bum (that I’m already self conscious about…squats don’t work!!) Look like a flat pancake…and my lower tummy look like I’m 4 months pregnant.
Am I just being hyper critical of myself? Was it just a bad angle?
At this point selling isn’t an option. (This exact dress/same size brand new is on pre-owned wedding dresses in my area and it hasn’t sold with months of being up)
Would a lace illusion jacket help balance out the triangle of the skirt?! Why didn’t I see this in the mirror?!?!?

mrsmurraytobee: It’s really a beautiful dress, have you tried squats with weights? You have a great figure and this certainly holds onto it! Perhaps some shape wear would give you a boost of confidence? They even have undies with a bum boost.

That dress doesn’t look like it fits. Anyone will look bad in clothes that don’t fit them. The same thing happened to me- I looked horrible in the sample gown. Once my dress came in and I altered it, it was the perfect dress. In real life you can imagine what that might be like, a photo is just giving you a still image, and it really doesn’t help when a sample doesn’t fit. I would definitely recommend shapewear too. I’m a fairly thin girl, but dresses just fall nicer with shapewear.

I’m not going to lie, I don’t think it’s doing much for your figure in those picture and you have a great figure so it’s nothing to do with that! Your posture in the side-on picture doesn’t look great so standing tall might make a big difference, did you have shoes on for these pics? It also looks a little bit tight as its pulling accross the middle – is it lace up or zip back?
Remember that pictures and real life don’t always look the same so don’t despair. If all else fails would the bridal shop transfer your deposit to a different dress?

mrsmurraytobee: I think you look absolutely amazing in it! Has the dress been fitted yet? I know my dress made my tummy pooch a little until it was fitted. Also, maybe some shapewear would make you feel more confident?
But honestly you look stunning and it’s an amazing dress!

Wowe ladies! Thank you for your swift replies! You are all very correct….this dress don’t fit me. I do have Spanx on…but I don’t think they would help much since the dress is just so tight anyway.
Every time I look at the pictires I just can’t decide if I hahate it o love it. This is the sample and I sized up…so it is really not as horrible as I think?
And as far as lifting weights/squats I do that 3× a week or so and ride horses 2-5× a week. (Which works for every other equestrian in the world….I’m just incapable of developing an ass! Lol) but I have considered but pads. I’m more self conscious about my butt more than anything so I’ve Def looked into it lol.
I just didn’t realize how triangle-y it was on the bottom…maybe that will look more proportional if it’s looser on top?

I actually think you look beautiful in that dress. I bought my dress and didn’t take any photos and now I’m worried that I will look terrible in my dress! It’s awful when you’re not sure though, but honestly, every single photo that was taken of me in a dress shop turned out pretty awful! No matter what dress I wore! That was one of the reasons I didn’t want to take a photo of myself in THE dress, because it took away from how I felt about myself in it and I didn’t want my happy feeling ruined by someone else’s photography skills!
It looks like the person taking the photo was sitting down so not at a flattering angle, people won’t be taking photos like that on the day and if they do they will be intersperced with proper ones! Even Beyoncé takes a bad picture from time to time. Just remember, you loved the way you felt in it, you felt right, and on the day and in the right situation you will shine, and it will show, and you will look amazing.

mrsmurraytobee: I think you look fabulous! It gives you such a great shape, and I bet when the dress is yours and fitted to your body, you’ll be stunning!
I will also say that for me, at least, all the photos of me in my dress don’t do the dress (or me!) justice at all. I had a similar pang of regret looking at the photos of myself. So I have pretty much put myself on photo lockdown and just try to think about how amazing I felt when I was wearing it. Good luck! I know it is so frustrating to feel doubt about the dress.

mrsmurraytobee: when it fits properly it will look much more flattering, but it’s beautiful and so are you:-) get some butt pads, pull your shoulders back, neck long, pelvis in and and voila, amazing.

mrsmurraytobee: I agree with what everyone has been saying, the sample dress doesn’t fit you, so wait until your actual dress comes in and make a decision then! You have a lovely figure that most people would kill for, so be happy with yourself!
On that note though, the reason I’m commenting is I wanted to say something else. About the whole ass “issue” as you see it. Your FI knows exactly what your ass looks like, and he loves you regardless. He knows what your ass looks like now, so if you wear “butt pads” or whatever on your wedding day, chances are he is going to know! It’s obviously up to you how you move forward with that decision, but it isn’t going to make him love you more or less, he loves you just as you are. So you should love you as you are, small ass, big ass, whatever, it doesn’t matter 🙂

wow! If you look that good in the dress now – you’re going to look amazing once the alterations are done.

I think it looks really gorgeous on you.
I would get different shapewear and alterations.

Can you stop the order? do an exchange? Modify the shape prior to productIon? You are a very attractive person but I agree that this shape is maybe not the best. And I’m not sure why others are saying it doesn’t fit you – it may be a bit snug but it’s pretty close to what it will look like in the end.
i think a ball gown would look so beautiful on you with your small waist and thin arms!

The dress is beautiful. It is a little too tight just below the belly region but that is a very easy fix. The particular dress you have on would need to be let out to flatten the belly region and this will solve that issue. I had that problem trying on most dresses. I am sure with the right tweaking, the dress will be absolutely stunning.
