My wedding dress came in a few months ago, and I hated it on. It made me look chunky, and I am NOT chunky. My measurements are 36-28-32, and somehow, this dress makes me look like I weigh at least 15 lbs more than I do. It’s not the fit, because it is a custom dress from Casablanca. I do not have the money or time to get a new dress. Any bees have suggestions? I am so upset. I thought it would grow on me, but I just hate it even more. I’m sad this is what I have to wear to me wedding.

Can we get a picture? It’s probably not as bad as you think.

Which Casablanca dress is it? I’m sure you look absolutely beautiful in it!

any pictures? I’m sure you look amazing in it, but if you don’t feel amazing in it, maybe the Hive can come up with some easy alterations, like a belt or broaches or something.

I think you look beautiful in it but I can also see what you’re saying. What about adding some fullness to the skirt – having it poof out – more like a ball gown. No expensive alterations needed, just try a tulle skirt underneat it and see if it changes your feeling.
It might also just be the photo. Check out the thread of fitting pics vs. day of wedding pics. The difference is absolutely astounding.

I second the mysterious anonybee. You’ve got a great figure, and poofing out the skirt more would draw the focus back into your waist.

Do you have a zipper or a corset back? If you don’t have a corset back, maybe consider adding one. I know you said you don’t have the money or time to get a new dress… maybe this can be an easy fix?

I would also add to the fullness of the skirt. If that doesn’t work I would go to the large department store (ie:The Bay) and look at some white prom dresses.

yes! add poof the skirt, thats what I did and I was surprised how my waste shrunk!! I love your dress, it is beautiful!!

maybe add fullness to the skirt or a sash around the waist to make it look a bit more pulled in

Thanks everyone, I will try adding some poof to the skirt and put some jewelery on. I’m wondering if it might be the unflattering lights as well.

@ERnurse: always go to the light (the Window that is). Go I. Feeling good and it should help. It looks like your not happy with the way your shoulders are placed.

i agree, more poof should help.

Aw, poor thing! It’s a beautiful dress, and you look lovely. I get it though, my measurements are close to yours and I know how easily I can look a little thick without the right fit. 37-28-40
Pouf the skirt
Corset the back to cinch your waist in even further, it’s tiny, but having it cinched will help a lot. If your waist is 28″, suck that baby down to 27 and it will make a world of difference! Corseting will also allow you to bring it up (and hold it there) a little higher. Your picture could be a picture of my arms/armpit/chest section, and bringing the dress up just a bit was SO slimming.
This shouldn’t cost much, but it will make a humongous difference. And and I’m doing this- have the sweetheart neckline deepened further. I have super broad shoulders, so for me, it will cut that solid line across the top. Google some pictures of real brides in sweetheart necklines and you’ll see what I mean.
