Hi everyone! I have some dress angst!
So I have always wanted a classic, elegant ball-gown-y look, but I am short and the ballgowns tend to swallow me up, so have been looking at trumpet styles. I went shopping about a month ago on a whim while visiting my future sister in law and loved this 2-piece dress with a sweetheart corset top (there’s a ruffle at the bust) and a tulle skirt that went knee-length. As I used to dance ballet when I was a kid, I loved it and bought it on the spot. (And it wasn’t that expensive, so I fit it in my budget!)
However, I’m now not sure if the tea-length top/skirt combo is formal enough for my semi-formal wedding (ceremony in a garden and the evening reception will be in a ballroom). And my legs are muscular, so now I’m not sure if I want all my pictures to have a skirt that would not be flattering at all angles, as my legs tend to look a bit chunky with lower hemlines (and I would have to think about the right shoes, as well).
Should I keep looking for a floor-length dress? Argh!

I think that if you are having doubts, you should go try on a couple of different styles. You could come to the realization that you do, in fact, love the original dress you purchased. But you won’t know until you try.
I was in a slightly similar situation. About 4 months ago, I was browing for dresses with my Mom one day, and not planning on buying. The place was having a huge sale, so I felt pressured to buy a dress. I kept having anxiety over the dress style, and kept wondering if it was not the right fit for me. I decided to go back to the store, re-try on the dress, and I realized that I did NOT want it. I was able to purchase a new dress, and now I feel 100% confident that I found my dress.
You need to do what will make you happy! You want to feel beautiful on your day.

If you’re not feeling 100% about the tea length, then I definitely think you should keep looking. I am a short bride myself (5’1!), and also had dreams of the ballgown, and also ended up looking in the trumpet/mermaid styles. Good luck with your search!
